February 25, 200323 yr Hi, in a fp that Tocart posted a while ago (EGKK-MKJP), there're some PTID positions that I'm not sure about. Take, for example, this: "EGKK SAM *3SAM *8SAM *7SAM GIBSO DAWLY....." and then later on...."GE001 GEO02 *3840 WINGZ MKJP". What are those "*" positions all about? If anyone can help explain this to me, I'd be very happy :-)Cheers,Dalat
February 25, 200323 yr These could be the SID/STAR legs. They always seem to have weird names. For example a LAM4M off RW26L at EGKK would be:RW26L IWW2 DET31 DET29 ACORN D082J D161O D341J LAM Cheers[br][/img]
February 25, 200323 yr Yeah, your example is strange, too. Maybe Tocart could pipe in here and set us straight on what these are and why they are designated with a "*"; I've seen SID's included in fp's before but not like this; more often than not they are written in like "ESER2" or "REDEYE1", something like that. You could be right, still, in that they have to do with STAR/SID legs.On the latter example of mine, though, the "*3840" before the WINGZ waypoint doesn't seem to have anything to do with a STAR as it's roughly 500 miles or so from the destination airport! It looks to be a GPS coordinate, but I have no idea why it's set apart with a "*" and not simply put down as a "GEO" coordinate.Dalat
February 25, 200323 yr Hi,The first ones (*3SAM *8SAM *7SAM) are DBE (Data Base Eurocontrol) points; those are internal CFMU points used either in SID/STAR descriptions or to solve point homonym problems. E.g. there are three SAM navaids in Europe; Southampton DVOR in the UK, Samos TVOR in Greece and Satu Mare in Romenia. The GEO points are extrapolations from geographical coordinates found in the route field, and part of the ADEXP format. This format is used in computer to computer exchanges. Cheers
