March 15, 200323 yr Author Koen,Thanks very much, your speed of posting continues to amaze me.Much appreciated, Regards,Steve.
March 16, 200323 yr A couple of quick questions:1. How does one 'decode' these plans? :) I recognize the FAA Airport codes, but little else.2. What program is being used to generate these plans?3. What is this type of format called?UAL47 KSFO-PHOG B772/HN0491F310 GAPP3 SFO DCT CINNY/M084F320 DCT STEVN DCT DOPPS R576 DENNS DCTHAL115 PHOG-PHNL B712/MN0390F140 MAUI5 OGG DCT LNY JULLE4HAL113 PHNL-PHLI B712/MN0390F140 KEOLA2UAL74 PHLI-KSFO B752/MM081F370 V15 MKK DCT CLUTS R465 CINNY DCTThank you!
March 16, 200323 yr Author Christopher,The flightplans above can be decoded as follows:-UAL47 KSFO-PHOG B772/HN0491F310 GAPP3 SFO DCT CINNY/M084F320 DCT STEVN DCT DOPPS R576 DENNS DCTUAL47 - United Airlines flight 47.KSFO-PHOG - Is as you say the airport codes for where the flight is originating from and where it's going to.B772/H - Is the aircraft type, in this case a Boeing 777. The H is for the wake category of the aircraft, in the case of a 777 a Heavy (for the 717 in the other plans a Medium).N0491F310 - This is the planned True Air Speed in Knots and the initial Flight Level.GAPP3 - Is the Departure Procedure out of KSFO in this case the GAPP3 Standard Instrument Departure. So the flight will go from San Francisco direct to the CINNY intersection where it is planned to be at Mach 0.84 and a Flight Level of 320 (CINNY/M084F320), it then goes direct to STEVN and then DOPPS intersections. At DOPPS it joins the R576 airway which it follows as far as DENNS and then it goes direct (DCT) to PHOG.In the case of the HAL115 flight plan this also includes a STAR or Standard Terminal Arrival Route. In this case from the Lanai VOR (LNY) the flight follows the JULLE4 arrival into Honolulu (PHNL). All a STAR is, is basically a predefined route that takes some pressure off of the ATC controllers in that they know where the flight is going without having to constantly issue instructions whilst feeding flights into the arrival flow prior to landing. Departure Procedures are the same except in reverse.A good place to look for SIDS and STARS for the USA is at Clearance Unlimited website (http://www.clearanceunlimited.com) whilst for the UK the National Air Traffic Services website is good but you do have to register (free) to use it.I hope my explanation makes sense (I also hope I got it right as i'm no expert). As for parts 2 & 3 of your question then you will need someone else to help you as I don't know the answer to those.Regards,Steve.
