EPIC USB Issues (and Project Magenta)

Featured Replies

Hi all!Just received the EPIC USB kit for B737 project and could not help but notice on this forum that there are still some "issues" with the the USB version. Could anyone summarize the differences between the ISA and USB versions, espeically with regard to compatibility with Project Magenta / FS2002. Long term, are we better to stick with the ISA interface or will the USB setup eventually be fully compatible the existing software? Thanks all.Cary

The EPIC USB is a much more capable system, more reliable, and better to work with.THe software support is still being worked on, but is going very well. Full compatibility with FS2002 is already in place with various ongoing projects, and I understand Peter Dowson has a Beta version of his EPICINFO for EPIC USB and Fs2002.Ray

Cary,I am just starting on a home cockpit myself and I am assuming that the EPIC ISA requires an ISA slot in the computer to work. I am an electrical engineer and a motion 'nut' and at my job now we were using a Delta Tau motion controller that was PC based that required an ISA slot to work. I couldn't find any computer manufacturer that offers an off-the-shelf computer with an ISA slot anymore. We control 4 axis of motion with this motion controller for our automaiton machines and us a Dell PC to house the controller. When is came time to order more Dells I found out that ISA slots are a thing of the past. We had to switch to a panel mount motion controller that communicates with the computer via a USB or Ethernet port. I'm sure you can still by a motherboard with an ISA slot but for my company it didn't make sense to build custom computers because of warranty issues, etc.. Just my two-cents.ArtI would sure love to build a full motion simulator. I just don't have the room to do it. I pretty much could figure it out hardware and software wise from what I have been doing at work, but I just don't the $$$$$$$.
