Basic EPIC advice for a newbie...

Featured Replies

Hi All,I'm dipping my toe in the water at the start of my 737 build. I'm starting by building a CDU, using an FDS kit and Project Magenta software. I'm planning to use EPIC USB to link all the hardware because of the flexibility, but the documentation on the various websites is a bit sporadic and because I am cash constrained I would be grateful of some advice...In essence I would like to know what the minimum EPIC setup I need to purchase to enable me to achieve the following is:1. Link the 69 keys on the CDU to project magenta via an EPIC USB board...2. Achieve 1 without restricting expansion possibilities. (ie I don't want to throw away hardware bought for 1 in order to expand in the future).3. A secondary consideration is ease of installation...Any advice from the experts would be greatly appreciated...Many RegardsSimon Kneller

Sound slike you'd need the following:1. EPIC USB Card2. EPIC First Expansion Module3. EMDA Card (http://www.em.ca/~cockpits/products/wiring/emda.htm)You can't go wrong with this from CSI.Now, another solution, since you'll most likely be running the CDU on a separate system, is to buy a Keyboard Encoder from Hagstrom electronics. (www.hagstromelectronics.Com)I use the LP24 module for my EFIS panels and CDU.Regardless of how you go, if you use multiple systems, you'll need to link them up via a small network, then use WideServer/WideClient (Both Free) to get everything talking to eachother.I have to upload some massive updates to BlueSideUP concerning the EPIC USB Programming, so you may find something useful there...
