Problem getting BSU QRC to work

Featured Replies

Hi folks,I recently purchased a QRC from BSU but I have no luck getting some keystrokes out...My LP24 is configured for a 737 EFIS panel - all pushbuttons are working well. But the QRC simply doesn't give anything to the encoder.For test purposes I wired up my encoder as shown on page 7 of theQRC manual. But nothing happens :-(What am I doing wrong? Do I have to use diodes? Power supply is 12V/2A. Desperately, I even tried every possible jumper configuration...Thanks for your help,Michael

Hi Michael~If possible, can you explin how you've got the rows/columns configured on the keyboard encoder? Lead #1 from the QRC should go to a Column, the rest of the cable (8 wires total) should be attached to rows.You may need to fully configure the keyboard encoder first, then test the configuration by shorting out the Row/Column leads to see if you get the desired results. Once the Keyboard encoder is verified, then begin connecting the QRC one Row/Column at a time, verifying as you go.YOu should also return all the jumpers to their normal configuration as I can guarantee the QRC will not work with the keyboard encoder without the jumpers in the default positions.My personal email is [email protected] if you need helpRay Sotkiewicz

Hi Ray,still have no luck. Here's my setup:LP24 configuration:------------------------------| Column | F | G | H | I |------------------------------| Row E | V | B | Home | End |------------------------------Shorting Row E with Column F will give "V" and so on, but onlywhen shorting them manually or with a normal pushbutton.For testing the QRC I have plugged to shipped 16pin ribbon cable withthe mechanical encoders into P3; P2 ribbon cable is connected to the LP24 like that:Pin 1 => Pin EPin 3 => Pin FPin 4 => Pin GPin 5 => Pin HPin 6 => Pin IJumper configuration: JP1-4 on, JP5 1-2 and JP6 off.I have a 12VDC power supply able to carry max. 2A (should be enough).I tested the LP24 manually and its properly working. Exchanging the"rows" and "columns" gave no success.Is it possible that the unit was damaged by the german duane officerswho have opened the package for inspection? How can I test the function of the QRC?Would be quite happy if you can give me a hint on what I'm doing wrong.Michael

It's quite possible the unit could have suffered some damage.. If they opened the package and handled the card without using electro-static discharge precautions, that may have damaged the card.If you have an EPIC system, it's easy to test. Just wire it up as shown in the directions and you'll know immediately if it's in working order or not.Another method is to put a voltmeter across Lead #1 of the 10-conductor cable and any other lead, then operate the corresponding rotary. That should show a change of +/- 5vdc.Ray

Also try this:Pin 1 => Pin F (Column)Pin 3 => E (Row)Pin 4 => V (Row)Pin 5 => B (Row)Pin 6 => Home (Row)
