EPIC documentation

Featured Replies

Hi all, when I read the posts, I see two things we all have in common:1. we like the EPIC (or what it can do)2. many are in dire need for good documentationIt always breaks my heart when I read posts from guys who are utterly lost in the EPIC maze and in some cases end up selling their equipment!Since some of us have (kind of) mastered the art of EPIC hardware wiring and programing, why don't we start a project to put our knowledge together and make it available to others? This could be done in two steps: First, we make a list of topics which are of common interest. Than, each of us picks a topic that he/she knows a good deal about and writes one page. Ray could publish that on bluesideup along with the excellent stuff he has already written. For simplicity's sake we should concentrate on USB v.50 and up.Let me start the list here, sofar unsorted (please add topics):- wire up a button and controll it from epic- device descriptors (how to, what they do)- hooking up a joystick- modifying rudder pedals (grouded pot) to work with USB-EPIC- working with addons (like EpicMapper)- the EpicRotary board(...running out of steem...)What do you think, guys? Hans

Hi Hans and all others,i like the idea of Hans. i think much of us users can make profit of the knowledge of the others. i myself have some of the epic now running. one point we should rember are the changes in the sysntax that occur with some new versions of epicenter. i am using the 53 now and did not test the 54 which appeared in January.i would add to the list :how to define all modules (i had great problems here myself)which kind of hardware can be used with one of the modules.how to define and use variables and flags.ok if hans or somebody else will be able to coordinate it, we should start this. Achim Bethke

This is a WONDERFUL idea!!!!! It is a excellent device, it has fantastic potential, and I want to be able to use it to it's full potential. AND I wish I could help, I'm one of the persons that is in dire need of guidance:)Even the EPIC CENTER, I couldn't find Docs for that, but finally got it figured out.I've been trying to do something simple, like, use a joystick, LEDTEST. Seems simple, but just couldn't get it to work.GO FOR IT GUYS..... I would appreciate it!!!For those of you not familiar with my project, here is my EPIC setup.

I would be glad to coordinate our little project - and write some stuff myself, of course ;-).The suggestion on the new versions is important. My idea would be to try to get "What's new" lists from Ralph.OK, here is the updated list.- wire up a button and controll it from epic- device descriptors (how to, what they do)- hooking up a joystick- modifying rudder pedals (grouded pot) to work with USB-EPIC- working with addons (like EpicMapper)- the EpicRotary board- how to define all modules - which kind of hardware can be used with one of the modules.- how to define and use variables and flags- What's new list for new versionsI will start writing about device descriptors. That is an easy one (configuratively speaking), because it is basically all in the R&R documentation, only badly explained!Any other takers? And how about publication: Ray, is bluesideup ok with this?HansPD: Matt, congratulations, your setup looks so CLEAN!!! Mine is a big mess in comparison, one million cables curling around, like a mad scientists nightmare...

This sounds great, everyone!Actually, this comes at a very good time for BSU, as I have literally no time left in my day to write new articles about the EPIC USB. (As much as I want to, my current project involvement is a nightmare)I will happily post new material written for EPIC USB, with full credit given to the contributor(s). I am sure Ralph and Steve of EPIC fame will certainly appreciate this. You can contact me at [email protected] if anyone wants to talk more. One of my projects is a total conversion to a new site that will be the offspring of BSU (Check it out: www.simconcepts.net ) My hope is that this new site will be a group effort and contain the works of many sim enthusiasts. It will also host it's own forum system. Still trying to accurately define the new site's role in the sim world.Best~

Gee, did't I say this back in oct. Good Idea How do we send the info? to who and how? TVRON.

I think you were referring to getting together all of the experts in the field, Ralph, Peter D, et al...This thread sounds like a collaborative effort from other EPIC users with varying degrees of expertise in the field.

Hi Hans and all the experts! I really would appreciate the cookbook you are thinking about!!I would like to be able to contribute something to that project, but I am not (yet ;-)) in the position to do so...In my opinion one item is crucial: to define ONE "reference version", to set up documentation upon this level and to supply the what's new.So everybody can rely on and this documentation will become sort of a reference.Btw, isnt that the job of the manufacturer....?Please, start with that, I wish I could help!Thomas

Hi Ray,yes, this is the idea: a collaborative effort, with everybody who has something to contribute (and is able to write about it) just does so.I am certainly not an expert, but I've had an EPIC system for the last 6 years. After a while I startet to understand the concepts and tricks, and I am willing to share what I know. So, everybody is invited! Take your pick from the list and type away!Regards,[email protected]

TVRON:I would say we send the stuff we wrote to Ray, so he can put it on this site.Just drop us a line in this forum so we know what you are writing about (to avoid doing the same thing twice).Hans

Hi!The same comes from me.. I also would appreciate it very much! Since I am still at the beginning to work with my EPIC I am unfortunately not able to contribute anything, but hopefully in the future...regards,steve
