Putting it all together.

Hello all. I wish to clear up some issues I and others might have had as to how to use the Epic once you have it programed. I have found or not found I should say much info on how you put all the software together. I am refering to talking to Flight Sim xx. Here is the problem I have had.1) I have 4 cpus networked using Widesever this works well.2) I use the "Free FD" package for my lcd displays, I use four in my main panel.Neat software. Now the problem. I have had a hell of a time getting the Epic to talk to fs2000. Not that it doesn't work but it is so hard to setup. First you need fsuipc then you need epicio, then epicinfo then fs config then epicinfo config as well as wideserver, server and client setup. then there is the win98 game controler, along with it's problem of not seeing the joysticks in the proper order. It makes my head swim!!. But the big problem is, in my case, having to re-boot Fs2000 each time I make a change to any of the software I.E. if I write a new line of code in Epic, recompile then reload Epic, my system will crash if I have not exited out of FS2000. What a waste of time booting and rebooting....and all the config files to go thru.@#$#@%$#@....Not to memtion the going from decimel to hex and the off by one routine in the epic to game controler (so you can see your buttons) then to fs config, which then starts it's numbers at 0. you all see what I mean. Now I most likly have been doing all this wrong but it has been the only way I could get it to work, until now. I finaly loaded and ran the FS COMM software written by Robert Fischer, and it is the best thing I have ever seen.(Thankyou Robert) Using the software you don't need epicinfo and its config nor do you need to edit the FS2000 config. you can forget about the win98 game controler and all its problems. Best of all and I love this, you don't ever have to re-boot anything!!!. just close the communication to epic and edit away!!. In the first few hours of using FS Comm I have gotton more done than in the many months I have spent so far. Once you learn the program its a snap to do anything. Now the only ref. file you need is the table in the FSUIPC SDK doc. this is for the offsets in fsuipc. So if any of you have had a problem with all the software as I have had, get FS COMM software, it will make you quest much, much more fun.:-beerchug

Ron~hehe.. yer gonna put me out of business! I haven't seen FS Comm yet, but it is refreshing to know that people are addressing the elusive (and incredibly complex) 'Middle Layer' between FS200X and EPIC.Also on the market is a program called EPICMapper, which I understand is also an excellent middle-layer application.Code on!Ray
