FSDS2 vs. GMAX

Featured Replies

OK, I really don't know. What are the main differences and/or advantages with these 2 modelling techniques. I'm more interested in technical differences than personal opinions. I like GMAX built planes but honestly don't have any of the new FSDS2 built planes. Thanks a lot. Greg in KAVL

Technical difference between Gmax and FSDS. Gmax is based on 3D Max Design Studio. The interface is basically the same, the only thing you cannot do in Gmax is render the object for something other than FS or Trainz or MSTS. The learning curve is a lot longer than FSDS.FSDS was designed by Louis Sinclair, and built from the ground up. There was no interface to base the app after. Its a lot simpler to use than Gmax. The newer version will allow for reflective textures, as will Gmax. The animation sequences are about the same. With Gmax you must have the Pro version of Fs2002, there is a plugin that comes with the pro version. FSDS does not require any plugins, it creates the aircraft using the FS2002 variables. It boils down to personal preference, and since you arent interested in them, then its up to you make that decision. If you want FSDS V2 aircraft visit www.freeflightdesign.com, they have downloadable FSDS v2 aircraft.

Another difference you didn't mention was that Gmax is free, while FSDS is payware.
