December 14, 200223 yr Just a note, since I got caught once, and I've seen another post for a similar thing here. When loading AS after you have FS up and running, it will take several seconds to minutes for the weather to fully change to the new values. Don't think it isn't working because it is (unless you wait 5 minutes and nothing has happened that is). This is part of the smooth transition process (correct me if I'm wrong Damian/Guys), and believe me, it is GOOD! I hardly noticed the wx changing on me until I suddenly had zip for vis. Scared hell outta me :-). When you load, give it time :-).Glenn
December 14, 200223 yr Hi Glenn, once AS is up and running, when you re-enter FS, the weather change will be instantaneous, subject to your FSUIPC and WxRE cloud transition settings. However, AS processes a lot of data during initialisation, so you'll only see the 'new' weather once the dialogue displays 'Weather processing complete!' Any message that is followed by three dots (such as 'METAR processing complete...') just shows the progress of data processing. If you go back into FS at this point, your CPU will not only have to handle processing the AS data, but also reinstating FS, which will cause delays.Cheers,Gosta.http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg
December 14, 200223 yr OK, sounds good. Just to be clear, I wasn't complaining about that. I have my transition set to 30, but I loaded FS then wxRE. It took about 2 minutes for the wx in FS to show completely, but that's just fine by me. Looks and works GREAT!!!Thanks Gosta!Glenn
December 14, 200223 yr Hi Glenn,I know you weren't complaining :). My point was just that users should make sure AS has started up fully before re-entering FS, anything else will cause a huge frame-rate drop while AS is still initialising... Once AS is there, though, it has no impact on fps even on my mediocre system (AMD Athlon 1GHz, 256MB RAM, Radeon 7200 64MB, Cable connection). On that note - as you now have an excellent weather program - why not try a few flights around Europe, a region that has traditionally been meteorologically challenged, as far as FS is concerned... Now is the time to take advantage of all that breathtaking add-on scenry for that region of the world (mostly freeware)... Just a thought...Cheers,Gosta.http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg
December 14, 200223 yr Hey Gosta,Thanks for this! Yeah, right now I'm just getting a brand new VA off the ground (sorry, pun intended :-) ) based out of Quebec City, Canada, so we have some flights to do today (although I just checked the weather using AS - maybe NO flights today :-eek, at least not in the Beaver!). However, we have plans to expand to Scandinavia (Norway esp - one of the most beautiful places in the real and FS world!) so I'll be over that way soon. One or two runs to Kirkenes and Svalbard will tell me real quick how AS does in those situations :-).I did fire up FS this morning, but the way I've been doing it is loading AS first, getting the wx I want. The System Time box is DEselected and I asked for the current METAR report using the last hourly GMT time (i.e. this morning at 07:30 EST I asked for the 12Z METAR), and it came back with the 11:00Z report (which is close enough for me since I'm using the Offline mode). I THEN loaded FS2002, and it did take about 4 minutes or so to have the wx fully change. NOW, I then restarted FS2002 and went through the procedure as above again, only this time after FS2002 was up and running, I hit the "REFRESH" button on AS and things came up MUCH quicker! Next I'll try loading FS2002 first and see if that speeds things up more yet (in other words, use the technique you describe above :-)). Either way, it is really performing for me! There'll be a lot of "discovering" on best methods, finding little tweaks here and there, and this is perfectly normal for a new program, especially one as versatile as this one is (and does so many complicated processes). THAT to me is the biggest plus of all in this software - it allows the user so many options! Finding just the right setup for your own personal likings (being a Climatologist and ex RW bush pilot, I'm EXTREMELY picky :-) ) takes a little while, but boy is it worth it, and it's a tonne of fun! Thanks again Guys!! GREAT job!Glenn
