general comments and one weirdness

Just wanted to say thanks for making Active Sky, real weather flying is now unbelievable :) I will never again fly using the default MS weather routines (except for a small period with MSFS Century of Flight while AS is updated for it :) ) Anyway, I was flying from KSEA to PHNL earlier and once I was starting my descent I checked the flightwatch voice report I was told winds were 600 at 16, jumped out to the desktop real quick and the actual text in the window said 060 at 16. What's up with that? I'm using 1.7 and noticed the same type of thing elsewhere in 1.6 and I think it was with that exact same 060 heading. Once I got closer to where I was definitely in my 100nm force range the weather changed to a TAF computation of 080/07 which was correctly read back via flightwatch. Any ideas?

Hi!This has been reported before a couple times but I have not yet been able to duplicate at all or figure out what causes this. I will look into it some more. If anyone has some additional information that might help please let me know. Hi Damian,I also got some of the "600 at 10" winds in the voice flightwatch. Once was at EGLL with a variable wind direction, so I supposed this was the reason. Then I got the same ad EDDM with a definitely univocal wind direction (08005KT became 800 at 5). That's happening with V1.7.I've also a question for you. I downloaded an offline sounding file but it appeared to be incomplete (many stations were missing), but wxRE worked OK, except that it retained just one wind spedd and direction from about 3000 ft up to 40000 ft and it picked it...from nowhere ! The reporting station was not in the offline file and maybe it took something from another station...Thanks for the help.Enrico

Hi Enrico,Still trying to duplicate this voice issue without success.Does this happen with the ATIS (first part) or FlightWatch report (second part)? An incomplete offline download will sometimes behave as you described... there is no nearby station with valid info so it is doing what it can with any avail info but the resolution gets rough. Are you able to get complete downloads now with 1.8 RC2? Let me know..-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...
[/table

Hi Damian, first of all my comments were in no way negative, OK ? wxRE is absolutely FANTASTIC and your support is much much more than anyone could expect.Anyway, this weird winds reports I got were for the ATIS (or METAR) only and were just a voice feature, that's to say: the green band text message and the simulated winds were absolutely correct. So, this is just a voice problem and not a simulation problem. Is just something that makes you jumping when heard...I did not have time to download the beta of v1.8, but since I can only download offline without passing thru wxRE (I've proxy authirization problems at work and don't have an internet connection at home), I still have to download manually thru raob.fsl.gov server. But maybe I found a solution to have an almost complete winds aloft download: I download by country and then paste in a proper .wmo file, since normally I don't need the entire world winds for my flight, it seems to work quite nice.Just a couple of suggestions for any next update of voice flightwatch: it would be nice to hear the weather too (that is:mist, fog, showers and so on) or the RVRs when provided, I know these things are not accurately simulated in FS, but it would add juts another touch of realism in the sim. Thanks a lot for yoy excellent work, Damian.Take care and have a nice Easter season.Enrico.
