Temperature at altitude

Featured Replies

HiActiveSky reports the temperature to be -22C at 16,000 feet but hte temperature gauge in the cockpit (TAT) is -8C.Is ActiveSky supposed to update the temperature at any given altitude? Before departure the temperature is correct and the weater is correct.Regards,Vaughan MArtell

Hi,Common thing!! When using TAT the highly moving air warms up a bit due to friction; so the TAT is going to be a little warmer. (-8 is warmer then -22). To see this, slow down to near stall speed and watch the TAT guage adjust to near the reported temperature. Before departure you are not moving too fast. It's all science!!!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
