The future of weather? Xm data..

Featured Replies

Yesterday I made this post on the ms board-and the experience was incredible.http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...d=263121&page=2The data on the pda is produced by the wxworx xm box that has many applications (including real flying which is how I mostly use it):http://www.wxworx.com/It occurs to me that this may be the next and most ultimate reality for weather for fs-after all it is about as close to real time weather a pilot can get...The box itself is about $600 now and will probably come down in price as more pilots/marine/car/weather junkies buy it. Right now coverage as far as I know is only for the US/Canada.They seem to be selling like hotcakes...As the xm box can connect to the computer/pda thru a serial/usb port it seems that it would be an fairly easy option to add a feature to Active Sky to get its' data from the xm box instead of the internet. When fs is actually recreating what XM can do:NEXRAD: automatically refreshed every 5 minutes MET/TAF: automatically refreshed every 12 minutes ,Lightning: automatically refreshed every 5 minutes, winds aloft, cloud tops, sfr's, tfr's and a whole bunch more-we could have weather for fs that is as close to reality as is possible! Check out all the data xm weather gives:http://www.xmradio.com/weather/learn_about.htmlI think this would be very exciting and be one step closer to 100% reality.... http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg
