Ideas needed to plan a long haul flight (wind average)

Recommended Posts

I really would like some advice on this issue, i did a few long haul flights already and although i know how to get my flight plan fuel needed and adding the extra fuel because of strong headwinds, i haven't completed my flights due to insufficent fuel. Here is the problem i'm using the asv wx report when creating a flight to see the winds and speed, i'm using the average at the bottom but its not helping me. I revised my schematic to load fuel and everything comes back to the strong winds that burned my extra fuel, all else was correct i checked quite a few times.Any ideas on this issue i'm having?IS there a tip out there when adding more how much is safe based on the actual wind. An idea i got was take the fastest wind speed in the plan and assume its a direct headwind at that speed for the entire flight, therefore leaving me with enough fuel. But i can also come in too heavy.Any thoughts!

To implement headwind into flighplans properly you should consult the individual aircraft manual of the aircraft. These graphs will show the impact of headwind in percentage. Rgds, Sam

If you are serious about fuel, consider FSBuild. It imports the winds aloft from ASV and calculates fuel.Steve
