Problems with Active Sky wxRE for FS9

Featured Replies

Hello All;I recently purchased Active Sky wxRE for FS9 (probably a mistake since it is now discontinued) from Flight1.com. This is the FS2002 product that was just upgraded for FS9. Flying via a FS9 generated flight plan, IFR (flown it numerous times before now) when using Active Sky Weather, ATC victor me into the airport area for my ILS landing. They victor me so way off the mark I never get to intercept the ILS glide scope. I end up flying away from the airport and then have to manually fly back to land it myself. When I use the same flight plan without Active Sky just using FS9 weather from the Internet everything works fine. I tried it with 4 different flight plans and I always have the same problem with Active Sky wxRE. It seems that FS9 ATC isn't working well with this product. I went to the support web site and down loaded the latest patch for FS9 however, the problem still persist.I have since contacted the support group twice and have not gotten a response. Is anyone else out there having the same problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.Best Regards.

Hi Anthony,I just checked all my e-mails since June 2005 and none are from you.If I did, I am pretty sure I would have responded! After wxRE loads the weather you do need to refresh the ATC in FS. There are a number of ways to do this. The easiest may be to increase the time in FS by one minute.AS does not change the way FS04 ATC operates. It is a known problem that ATC can vector a plane 30,40,50 miles out of the area. Sometimes they have been known to forget about you all together. One other thing: In wxRE make sure the Use 2004 Weather Writes is checked On.Please try the refresh method and see if that helps!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg

Hello Jim;Thanks very much for your prompt response. My first email was sent to a Richard Slater on 07/28 at "Just Flight Technical Support" who I purchased the product from, and the second one was sent on 08/02. That would probably explain why you personally never got it.Anyway to the resolution part, I am not exactly sure what you meant by refreshing ATC in FS; should I re-generate my flight plan, and what is increasing the FS time by one minute. Since I am not sitting if front of my FS PC I am not sure what it is. I have been using this product since it was introduced and never remember seeing a feature to increase time. Any help would be appreciated.Yes, you are 100% correct about FS9 incorrectly victoring way off the mark, which I have experienced several times. That's the reason why I have tired the produce with a know and proven Flight Plan I have done 50 times (KJFK to KBOS) NY to BOS. I have a PPL and I do this route all the time, 25 time in 2004 so, doing it in FS helps since this is also where I reside.I will also make sure I check the Weather Write Box. I did initially but then I unchecked again.Any help on the refresh method would be appreciated.Again, thank you very much for your help I greatly appreciate it.Best Regards.

Hi,And that is why you didn't get an answer because you didn't write to us!!No, regenerating you FP will not do it. After you load wxRE and your plan you need to force FS to refresh the ATC. Again, the easiest way to do this is by going to Alt/World/Time and Season and change the time of day by one minute. This forces a refresh. Also, changing the AI Traffic percentage also forces a refresh. This is Alt/Options/Settings/Traffic.We hope you don't think that wxRE is going to improve upon the ATC in FS04 because it is not. For that you would need another program. I just want your expectations to be realistic.I do hope that you will work on this in front of FS04 when you get a chance. Then post back here. We will be happy to help you out!!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg

Hello Jim;Thanks very much for your response and clarifying the refresh process. Unfortunately, My other PC (which I use for FS) had a problem so I couldn't try it yesterday I will however be getting on this evening so I will be trying your suggestions.Actually no, I didn't expect wxRE to change, alter or improve ATC in any way. My reason for using wxRE was strictly for weather related improvements.Again thanks, and one way or the other I will let you know how things turned out.Best Regards.

Hello Jim;I tried what you suggested and it actually worked, thank you.I however have a general question regarding the display of the weather. Flying from NY to Boston heavy rains and very cloudy:1) Taxing at JFK heavy rains, all of a sudden it clears up (very clear) for 10 seconds and then goes back to heavy rains again.2) Flying into Boston looks very clear way ahead no clouds however, all of a sudden '0' visibility rain again. The rain is correct since I know the forecast was rain. I just seems that the product doesn't display surrounding environment. My sliders for Weather are set to max in FS9 and Forced Destination is checked in the product. Is this the way the product works or have I missed a setting.Thanks.Best Regards.

Hi,Glad things are improving for you!1. It could be wxRE refreshing.2. In FS dynamic change should be set to "none". This could be the reason for #1 also. Remember that using wxRE you are in a global weather situation. What this means is that whatever the closest weather station is reporting that is what will be shown in FS04 until your destination weather is forced. You need ASV to see station based weather.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg

JimSorry to be a nosey-parker, but if you read Anthony's posts on simforums, he has actually mistakenly bought the wrong product, he actually wanted to buy ASV but soemhow missed your posts about the "new" ASV being available when he purchased Active Sky wxRE. Might be worth contacting him to see if he can be helped at all.Forgive my intrusion.PeterH

Hello Jim;Thanks very much for the info. on my 2 issues I will try them. On the other topic unfortunately my 30-day grace period is over so I guess I am out of luck from that aspect.Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Obviously ASV is the way to go with FS9 also given some of my assumption about how the weather ahead works. Interesting how products with such close names can differ so vastly.Best Regards.

Hello Jim,I am using Active Sky wxRE with FS9 and when I use the wxReport and enter my Departure and Destination points everything gets generated except the Enroute Weather. I have been using the product for about 3 months now and have never seen this information displayed. Is there a bug or is there something specific that I am missing, I looked at all options and can't seem to find anything I missed.Any help would be greatly appreciated.Regards

Hello Jim;I actually did. My flight is from JFK N.Y. (KJFK) to Chicago (KORD) IFR which has numerous waypoints. I will try it again with a new generated flight plan and another new generated weather and see what happens.Thanks.Best Regards.Anthony.

Hi,Sorry about this, but I gave you a bit of wrong information. It's been awhile since I used wxRE!There is no automatic way of importing a plan. With wxRE you must use the wx Briefing screen, type in you departing and destination codes and then in the Enroute/Alternative Stations Box enter any other METAR stations separated with a space. Your safest bet is to use airports along the way.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg

Hello Jim;Thanks for the update and yes that's what I thought. I didn't think that wxRE displayed the Enroute automatically. The manually was somewhat vague and didn't explicitly state it didn't, that
