December 28, 200520 yr Hi,Main problem in my new Active Sky purchase is the Radar Screen.CTRL F12 brings up screen no problem, right button switches it on, all works fine till I click down arrow to reduce to GPS size. It does this OK but main radar screen stays on!Alt Ent to minimise and them maximise leaves me with a black screen except menu bar. Nothing will work in view changes, and only a EXIT from FS is allowed to happen. (Cant see it, but still works)Have a Nvidia 5800 that is performing superbly, and Active Sky rader screen is first display problem I have had since intallation of 5800.As far as I, a newbie to AS6 can see, everything else is fine. Any ideas/fixes as to this issue?
December 28, 200520 yr Hi Ron,Thanks for the purchase and sorry you are having trouble.Looks to be a video driver issue. I suggest a uninstall/reinstall cycle of those.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
December 28, 200520 yr Had similar problems for the first time today. Twice flying through IMC came across some precipitation and launched the radar with F12...wow what a terrific looking radar with the rain etc...so I watch it for a while and then press F12 to close it. Everything freezes, FS,AS, the radar stays stuck open . When I finally got everything closed through task manager, I fired up FS again only to lose my keyboard input. Very strange. Had to do a cold reboot.I am going to see if it happens again, and instead of F12 will try to close it from the menu...have to go hunt down some precip :-)Using Win XP HE with SP2, .net up todate, 1GB Ram, P4/3.4, ATI X700 pro pci express with latest drivers (5.13)ThanksBillPS I will try before installing the service release and then after the release to see if any difference
December 28, 200520 yr Jim,Since last e-mail I have discovered that with Radar activated, I have screen stutters (first for ages!) when Radar Screen switched of...smooth as glass at 22fps with ALL weather happening. (Innsbruck real world snow/clouds all very nasty) so I am tending to think at this point that radar screen is not an option.I have latest nvidia drivers.Other point, does Radar Screen activated change keyboard defaults?Could not CTRL E to start engines, and saw that I had to re-enter this under keyboard assignments.
December 28, 200520 yr Bill,Glad I am not alone...one starts getting paranoid in Fs world!(g)Service release said that it woudl boot up AS6, an dit never did on complketion of update....watch for this and if same for you...update is possibly causing a problem.Win XP SP2 P2.4 5800 Nvidia, 1 Meg Ram all great till now!(g)
December 28, 200520 yr Ronald,You know the phenomenon when your car makes a strange sound, you go to the mechanic and for some reason you cant hear the sound again? :-) Well I just went to KGRD, some real nice IMC weather there. Flew around for a while and the F12 behaved perfectly. Opened and closed several times without problems. I even changed aircraft to see if that may have been the cause, and no problems. I wont tell you where and how I landed, but the NTSB is out there looking for me LOLSo I have no idea what happened the first couple times today..I will hold off on the update a day or two in case any problems get reported. Thanks and will report if it happens again.I forgot to ask, were you flying on VATSIM and if so what client..SB3 or FSInn? Bill
December 28, 200520 yr Hi All,A few things I picked up here:1. If you have Active Camera installed you cannot use the F12 command. However, a quick AltFA keystroke combination will work. Yes, FS04 will respond to a quick combination of keystrokes!2. For stuttering while AR is active: Go to your AR Options and turn down the Radar Details a bit.3. No, AR does not prohibit any key combinations.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
December 28, 200520 yr I dont have active camera....(AS is my first and only payware :-)) but will keep an eye if the problem occurs again.I will go ahead with the service release laterThanks as usual Jim for your attentionBill
December 29, 200520 yr Bill,No Vatsim or anything like that. Fs Passengers is my constant companion, and it was that forum that convinced me to shell out for AS6, so I assume that passenegers is not the problem. It may be one of the XP things that I have often commented upon in Avsim forums. At times I really believe that with FS stuff XP 'learns' with repeated boot ups and flying around, where frame rates improve and problems disappear. Here is hoping thats what happened to you. Also, the order of doing things matters. I could do all radar stuff first, ATC next, Passengers boarding next etc etc. I do tend to allow 5 minutes passenger boarding to do my cold and dark start with ATC & A/P setups. I was using this boarding time to do Radar as well. Possibly too much going on at same time?Tomorrow I will do a good few trials and see if my system 'learns'.I do not mind taking detail of FS Rader down a tad, but not too much or it defeats itself for being there.Whatis a good scale for rader? 100 miles, 25 miles? Is there an accepted best suitable range? A 737 at 430KTS fairly eats up 100 miles in no time at all, so I imagine reaction time around bad weather is instant action or your in it!
December 29, 200520 yr Hi,You may need to try 150-200.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/http://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6...development.jpg http://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-proud.jpg http://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-beta.jpg
December 29, 200520 yr Jim,Well it gets better and worse!Disregarding Radar altogether, I managed to take off from Innsbruck, in real world weather at sunrise. OK, I say that it was stunning, with early morning clouds under and over the Alps. Then, as I reached cruising altitude of 31K, Fs crashed! No warning, no indications, just desktop in a naanosecond!I had climbed through nice fluffy clouds no problem, enjoying the looking behind at cloud just gone through, and generally just changing views, no problem....then desktop!Other change is on the ground..when suddenly my trusty Wingman Force 3D decides to not allow AXIS steering on ground without heavy pull to the left. Now all of these things have never been a problem till AS6. I would expect FSUIPC to maintain current settings but to lose key commands, joystick axis, system stability, frame rates (With Radar activated) from 25fps to around 6fsp, and general nonsense to what was a very stable sim, seems to be pushing my limit!Any ideas?
December 29, 200520 yr Hi,1. CTDs are usually due to scenery add-ons or ADFADs.2. Unlees you clicked on the Restore Default settings in FSUIPC, AS touches nothing here.3. Frame rates with AR are due to your Radar settings being too high for your system.Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6...development.jpg http://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-proud.jpg http://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-beta.jpg
