September 10, 200619 yr Hi all,We all know those jagged edges at the limits of the FS9 visibility engine, all the more pronounced at high altitudes?I use Ge pro and activesky (most recent updates).Well, my solution is to set max visibility in the activesky settings to 29nm. Then, the fs9 max visibility setting in the display category to 60nm. Also, before loading a flight, I set the visibility in the FS9 WEATHER menu under advanced weather settings to around 30-40 miles and the top of the visibility layer to around 35-40,000 feet. That way, once I reach cruise altitude, the jagged and square edges are completely gone. However, there is that hazy fog look, which to me is an acceptable tradeoff for removing those edges. My question is, once I fiddle with the visibility in the fs9 weather menu, activesky does collaborate with it and I do get real world weather alongside this 30-40NM visibility. However, some time later, perhaps when activesky updates, my fs9 weather visibility settings are erased and reset to unlimited. So how do I keep my fs9 weather visibility settings and let activesky updating without erasing the visibility limits?BilalTIA
September 10, 200619 yr Hi,You cannot make adjustments in FS04 and have them "stick" as you have seen.29nm. maximum visibility should be pretty good. Also, the GE PRO sky sets should help with visibility limits. Are you using GEP sky sets?Lastly, if you have a registered version of FSUIPC you can make visibility adjustments based on altitudes. Please let us know,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
September 10, 200619 yr Well I tried "forcing" activesky to obey the 30/40nm visibility through msfs weather. Here's how, set the visibility setting at the "create a flight page." Then, once flight is loaded, reset the setting just to be sure, refresh activesky and (hopefully) voila! Real world weather in an acceptable haze that completely removes those edges!BTW, I don't have registered FSUIPC but I am using Ge pro sky sets upon activesky submission. It seems to work for me at least! Thanks for a tremendous product! We just need wind updates at every flight level to be even more realistic!Bilal
September 11, 200619 yr Hi,That is good, but it is not going to work. Once ASv6 refreshes the weather, the FS04 data will be set to the ASv6 values. Same as if you set precipitation, winds, temps, or cloud layers. If you really want to limit visibility you need to set it through ASv6.For the winds data, we are using the standard reporting altitudes for now.Let us know if you need more help,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
September 11, 200619 yr I don't know how I can thank you enough!!!!This upgrade has solved all my problems.I now run AS6 with 50km vis limit, but using GEpro I have created 100 different sky sets using "soft horizon" option (I have left all the other boxes unticked - is this right?).I then start AS6, download weather, import a flight plan, then load the GEpro ground textures and sky textures when prompted and bingo!!!So far on 6 different flights I have had different sky colourings, but all with lovely blended horizons. They remain nice and blended even at high altitude, and with the max vis set to 50 it is just right (29 is a little bit too low for flying at altitude). Thanks again to all the team. I have been struggling with hard horizons since ASV and have spent too many hours searching for answers, updating drivers, playing with FS9.cfg etc..........Now it is all working just as it should be.Thanks ;-)
September 11, 200619 yr And thanks to all of you, our users!!Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
September 11, 200619 yr NeilC, I don't show a "soft horizon" option. When I click on create sky texture sets my choices ar default, default softer, horizons, sunny, tropical, and pro sky. Which one should I choose?, Thanks, Bob
September 11, 200619 yr Hi,I think the best group is the "horizons" group for this issue.YMMV,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
September 12, 200619 yr I used "default softer".It seems to have created a whole set of horizons all with a nice blended effect. So far I have had no more hard lines.Jim, where do we find the horizons group?
