That strange Wx/Vis problem is back...

Featured Replies

Hi there,I had posted a week or so back about the strange display when flying into and out of AFB/NAS in Florida and Georgia. Something is really strange, because I flew a week of flights in the same area into and out of civilian airports without a problem.Just now I flew from flight KMIA - MYNN and everything was fine until I was descending into MYNN. Here is the METAR for MYNN for the weather I was using: MYNN 210300Z 04006KT 9999 FEW020 23/19 Q1022All of a sudden I noticed the scenery/display had changed to the same from my previous post. This time I noticed a strange phenomenon.During the cruise portion of my flight at 13,000 the temp had been a few degrees below 0C. As I was getting close to the airport and leveling off for the initial part of the approach, the scenery/vis changed as described above, but the temp had dropped to -8C! By the time I landed (which was no mean feat ), the temp was -36C...and this is at Nassau in the Bahamas!!!!So I think the temp/weird vis must be related somehow. I also wonder if it has something to do with v3.71 of FSUIPC (registered) that I'm using. I've seen posts in the FS9 forum of strange unannounced CTD's with the version. I have also experienced those CTD's which I hadn't prior to updating to the latest version. I am going back to v3.70 and see if I have the same problems. If anyone has any other suggestions, I would like to hear them. Thanks,ScottKJMS (or thereabouts)

As a follow-up, I deleted FSUIPC v3.71 and reintalled v3.70. I then rebooted the computer, and flew again the same exact route in the same exact aircraft using the same date/time using the same ActiveSky Wx as the previous flight. This time everything went as it should. There were no temp variations nor none of the strange visibility issues. However, since this was only 1 flight, it is by no means conclusive nor definitive that FSUIPC v3.71 might be the problem. Now that I've had a chance to reflect upon this, I do recall there being some instances in which the departing airports METAR temp did not match what was indicating on the default C182's (or the aircraft I subsequently selected). I cannot recall if this occured before the installation of FSUIPC v3.71 or not. In those cases, the departing airports temp was the "standard" of 15C. It would rapidly change to the METAR value as I climbed out.Anyway, it's something to look at, I guess.Regards,ScottKJMS(or thereabouts)

Hi Scott,Just as I thought a week ago! If the temp is less than the dew point then a strange "white out" of textures takes place in FS04. We do have an error correction portion of AS to eliminate this, but the correction did not take place here. It could be a data problem from the reporting station. We try to program error filters, but sometimes it is not possible to screen everything, everytime.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

Hi Jim,Thanks for reply. The strange temp readings causing a "white out" of textures does make sense. What is odd is that I had several flights during one week awhile back where it happened on almost every flight...when posted the problem originally. Is there any chance in subsequent versions of AS you will tighten up the filters somewhat to prevent this from occuring?ScottKJMS (or thereabouts)

Hi Scott,The filter is pretty tight right now as far as I can tell. Yours is the only like problem that we have had with this for a long time. I can suggest that you re-set FSUIPC to default settings and weather settings Off. Keep watching for this and report the temp./dp. combination that is being reported and shown in FS. Maybe there is more to this problem that Damian would need to look into.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
