February 27, 200719 yr New user of ASv6. Why do the winds aloft from ASv6 and other weather sites such as the NWS or NOAA for the same METAR/TAF time and location seem to not be the same. Is it because the winds aloft from NWS/NOAA are 6 hour forecasts for a particular location whereas the winds aloft from ASv6 are obtained from more current weather sources gathering more current winds aloft data? No matter what I do, I cannot get the ASv6 winds aloft for a particular METAR/TAF location to agree with the other winds aloft sources. e.g. Winds aloft on 2/24/07 from NOAA, valid for 241800Z, for use 1700-2100Z for a departure from KORD (using the nearest NOAA winds aloft site of JOT) at FL 340 shows 250 deg. at 71 knots. ASv6 METAR/TAF for KORD 241851Z METAR and associated TAF period 241818 shows winds at FL340 at 251 Deg. at 57 knots. Please help me understand the winds aloft differences and what I may be doing wrong or am not considering? Also, after ASv6 is done loading a weather situation, and after starting FS9 and loading an FS9 flight plan, why does the FS9 ATIS often not agree with the ASv6 METAR data for the same FS GMT time, and therefore FS9 ATC often assigns a different departure runway than what the ASv6 METAR/TAF wind data running simultaneous with FS9 would lead one to expect? February 27, 200719 yr Hi,Thanks for the questions! For number one it really is a data source issue. It's not a problem, it's just that the sources are different so that the data is a bit different. Are you using the Automatic Refresh of AI option? That should set things right to where AI use the proper runway and ATIS should voice the proper weather. Also, do not start AS paused for this to work. Please let us know if you need more helpThanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
February 27, 200719 yr Author Jim,ASV is simply a tremendous add on, and I am so glad I acted on the recommendation of so many to obtain it. And your great support of this program is tops. Sorry if this may have been covered before, but clarifying, is the proper order for flying offline with ASv6 and to get the FS9 ATIS and departure runway and ASv to agree:- After ASv6 is done on initial load up (Seattle default):- Load a (previously saved)weather situation via "Load Wx"- Import an FS9 flight plan via "New Route" (e.g. KORD-KLAX.PLN) and then "import" and then "process". When loaded:- Start FS9 and select a flight situation (assume a KORD departure)- Change the FS9 "Time and season" to agree with the loaded ASv METAR date and zulu time. - Refresh ASv AI, via the "refresh AI" selection- Load the FS9 flight plan (KORD-KLAX.PLN)into FS9 via FS9 Alt/Flight Planner/LoadThen when opening FS9 ATC the correct FS9 ATIS and departure runway for the ASv6 noted METAR/TAF surface winds is generated? How does the FS9 set zulu time change the ASv weather situation-i.e. how many minutes or hours (from the set FS9 zulu time) after the indicated ASv6 METAR time does ASV start using the TAF data instead of the METAR data for setting the weather situtation? If using Radar Contact 4, does it change any of the above? Thx. again,Jim
February 27, 200719 yr Hi,Thanks much!1. Yes, that is a good procedure. It looks like a lot but it really isn't. And yes, ATIS should now be correct.2. The TAF is used after it is newer, by the hours, then the METAR. Or you can download consecutive hours of METARS and link them in a chain. Then the METARS would be used.3. No difference using RC4.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
