March 29, 200719 yr AFter weeks of frustration and mystery, I have finally got a networked FS, and have just bought AS.But:On the main FS (WideFS) pc:I cannot see the contents of the My Network Places folder: it appears empty.I cannot view the Workgroup Computers: it says that I do not have permission and that the path is not available.(I have allowed unhiding and showing of all folders.)When checking the Sharing tab on either the FS folder or the FS partition, I do not see "New Share" of "Permissions" buttons or tabs.On the AS (WideClient) pc:I can see both workgroup pc's, and the FS machines' folders I have set up to be shared.AS is ending weather to FS, and two other WideCliented programs also appear to be working correctly.
March 30, 200719 yr Hi,Some of us have watched your progress for weeks! There is nothing in the My Network Places folder? Not even Add Network Place, Network Setup Wizard, or Entire Network? On a right click of a folder do you have Sharing and Security option? Then a Sharing Tab?If weather is being sent to FS and FS is communicating with AS and there are no error messages, the I would leave things alone.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
March 30, 200719 yr Author Hey Jim,The mystery deepens and I am completely confused. On the Main pc:This morning the content of the Network Places folder revealed itself for the first time. I don't know if as a result of my fiddling around or just plain luck. It shows the Application Data folder (as mentioned in the stickied How To thread), the main FS9 folder and My Documents, wherein lie the Flight Simulator files, all shown as being on the Main machine.Right-clicking on any of the folders doesn't bring up any Sharing or Security options. When the icons first appeared they had the bar underneath, but that disappeared after I opened each one.Choosing from the Tasks dropdown list on the left, I can still not see the Workgroup Computers: still denied access.Nor can I find any access to or icon for my network on the Main pc, although I can on the Client. On the Client pc:my network shows both Client and Main pc's. Opening the Main shows the App Data and FS9 folders but instead of My Docs (as appears on the Main)it shows the FlightSimFiles folder (which I think I had set up earlier).I was getting an error msg on loading AS about not finding the FS path, but I finally figured that one out and that path and the AppData paths are now set.So something is going right! Thanks for your interest.
March 30, 200719 yr Hi,I can't remember, what version of Windows is this?Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
March 31, 200719 yr Author Well, I must have got something right after all, as I managed KDCA-KPDX in 'the' 767, with AS realweather, those stroppy and impatient controllers at RC4 in my ear and FSCommander leading the way (with black cloud warnings and the brilliantly depicted AI).The only thing that went wrong was Pilot Error: me as a Pilot is definately an Error. A 'thank you' for the extensive Active Sky networking documentation, (as well as the networking docs provided by FSCommander). The invisible Workgroup Computers on the Mainpc are still invisible, but as long as I don't need to access their contents (from the Main) I guess I will do as you suggested earlier and not worry about it.Incidentally, I am on XP Home.Needless to say I am really pleased with AS, even from what little I've seen so far.Now I must troll the forum and check out how to get the most out if it with FE and GE, as well as trying to get my head around the bewildering array of options.Thanks.
April 2, 200719 yr Author I forgot to mention the most salient point of the above success: AS, RC4 and FSC were all networked. Huzzah!!!However, I have hit a brick wall.Because I am unable to access the "Workgroup Computers" folder on the Server (it tells me I don't have "permission", for which I must ask the "Administrator", and because "the network path cannot be found") I am unable to access the networked AS folder, in order to map the drive in order to run the ActiveRadarConnector.exe program.Have you any idea how to get around this?(OS is XPHome.)
