April 13, 200719 yr I started a post on the FS9 forum about performance loss in my FS system over the last few weeks... down to around 10 fps and then at times down to slide show level. It was suggested one thing was to use filemon. Running FS9 by itself filemon showed no errors in opening files or no missing files. However, when AS6 (build 533) is running then filemon reports that ASG is continously trying these two items: SUCCESS Options OpenDir access 0010001 No SUCCESS FilebothDirectInfo: trigger.dat Filemon shows ASG is doing these continuously unless FS needs something. Bottom line: is this normal behavior for AS6/ASG, or has something changed and ASG is now hogging resources. I haven't changed anything since I did the build 533 upgrade. Already done all the usual things: virus, spyware, rebuild FS.cfg. Mike
April 14, 200719 yr Hi Mike,The file activity may be normal, but the performance issue is not normal.See if having Keep ASG running on auto-submit checked Off makes a difference. Please let us know,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
April 14, 200719 yr Author Thanks, Jim.I'll try turning off the auto-submit and will re-run with filemon. Mike
April 14, 200719 yr Author Turned off ASG auto submit and ran with filemon. ASG continuously accessing was now gone; fps up about 5. How does turning off ASG autosubmit affect the weather displayed? Mike
April 14, 200719 yr Hi Mike,That is good!Having things set this way will not affect anything weather wise. It just means that ASG will only run when needed and will shut down when it is not needed.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
April 14, 200719 yr Author Seems leaving ASG in this mode is always the way to go then. It was amazing to see ASG constantly active in the auto-submit mode. Thanks again for the help. Mike
April 15, 200719 yr Hi Jim!>Having things set this way will not affect anything weather wise. It just means that ASG will only run when needed and will shut down when it is not needed.I looked in the Help file but couldn't find anything about this subject.Could you explain what the option means: "Keep ASG running on auto-submit"Why should it run or not run?If it's switched off and have to be started during the simulation, would not that cause stutters?Markku
April 15, 200719 yr Hi Markku,Under some situations the starting of ASG can cause stuttering. Some systems are taxed already and closing down ASG can create a little more room, so having ASG close, may help.I have weather updating every hour so I don't need ASG running the other 59 minutes! It really is a system specific setting.Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
