February 27, 200818 yr I had no trouble with this program on an archaic machinewith GE Pro and Flight Environment. Now with a new machine,3GHz quad processor and two 8800GTS cards (no sli) everythingis lovely until I run ActiveSky. Shortly after initiatingweather FS9 locks with the message from XP that it needs toclose.....I've perused the postings here and have verified that I haveRenderToTexture turned on in FS9 and in the fs9.cfg. Doesn'thave an effect. I uninstalled FE but that had no effect.I have saved the flight right after the weather is loaded. If I try using this weather FS9 seizes up immediately. I haven't found these particular symptoms posted anywherehere, but I certainly could have missed it.Does anyone have an idea of what would be causing this?I know the disclaimer is that ActiveSky cannot cause FS9to crash, but I run fine until I use ActiveSky.Thanks,Jim
February 27, 200818 yr Hi Jim,Try with Render to Texture turned Off.At what percentage of loading does FS crash? Please let us know.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/

Loaded ActiveSky and downloadedcurrent weather. Started FS then refreshed ASky. I experiencedno problems and was able to make a short flight. I then triedto load a prior flight that contained ActiveSky weather. FSfroze immediately. I rebooted XP and this time I downloadeda weather file from yesterday (20Z). Brought up FS and dida refresh. Started the default 737. After startup before Icould taxi FS froze followed by the familiar message that itneeds to close, do I want to notify MS....There appears to be something in the weather file that ActiveSkygenerates that my video parms cannot process. I say this becauseit doesn't matter if ActiveSky is running or not. I cannot runreliably with the generated weather file. I got one short flightin with the current weather but was only able to get engine startwith the second set. Here are my Display settings in fs9.cfg :[DISPLAY.Device.NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS.0]Mode=1024x768x32MipBias=7TnL=0TriLinear=1RenderToTexture=0//AntiAlias=1//PanelAsTexture=0//TextureAGP=0[DISPLAY]UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=24TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=360RUNWAY_LIGHTS_SURFACE_SCALAR=1.32 // edge,center,end,touchdown,runwaysRUNWAY_LIGHTS_VASI_SCALAR=1.40 // VAI lights RUNWAY_LIGHTS_APPROACH_SCALAR=1.28 // approach light barsRUNWAY_LIGHTS_STROBE_SCALAR=1.25 // RAILs and STROBESThere are no other Display sections in the cfg. Thanks,Jim
February 28, 200818 yr Hi,What video drivers are you using for your card? Are you using ASG textures or default FS textures?Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
February 28, 200818 yr Author >Hi,>>What video drivers are you using for your card? I tried using GEPRObut got same result so went back to ASG. I don't know how to use default FS textures as the Optionspanel only lets me choose between GePro and ASG.Thanks,Jim
February 28, 200818 yr Hi,And what options are you using for the ASG textures?Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
February 29, 200818 yr Author >Hi,>>And what options are you using for the ASG textures?>>Thanks,>Jim Software debugging is so interesting. All symptoms here point to displaying the weather data. I happened to be installing the shockwave light software when the installer said it could not find FS!! Now there is a potent clue. I checked and FS sure looked to be there. Control panel said it was and when I reinstalled ActiveSky is didn't see a problem. Nevertheless, something was wrong. I spent yesterday reinstalling FS along with the software that goes with it (GePro,FE,Ult Terrain,ASky, etc.) Fun. So far no problem. ActiveSky runs without incident either by itself or launched through GePro. This is a good example Jim of the symptom not pointing to the problem. Had someone suggested as cure to just reinstall FS one would not be tempted to take them seriously. Thanks for all your help just the same. Your suggestions were right on the mark for that symptom.
