March 24, 200818 yr Hi!I am using AS6.5 via a WIDEFS Setup (2 fast PCs linked with a network cable) and noticed this strange behaviour: Once in a while, mostly during weather updates I guess, the outside view of my virtual cockpit turns fully GREY! That means all of a sudden there is no more sky, no horizon, no clouds, no ground texture anymore - NOTHING! It lasts for a few seconds. During this time, the AS6.5 window on my client PC does not open, it seems to freeze and nothing happens when I click on the taskbar-symbol.It then reopens again and the outside view is back. It's frustrating because first you see the best simulated weather ever with the real feel of diving through marvellous 3D clouds and then -bang- you feel like a stupid flightsimmer in front of a flat screen showing nothing but the virtual cockpit instruments (at least) and an endless grey...Any ideas or help?I checked and unchecked the "Disable Write Throttling" and "Disable Process Throttling" but that did not have any effect, I believe.By the way - what are they exactly for? Thanks a lot!Ron
March 24, 200818 yr Hi Ron,Sorry for the problem.Is this with FS2004 or FSX?Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
March 24, 200818 yr Hi Jim,yes it is with FS2004.The FS-PC is a quite new one with 2 core and 2 GB RAM and a GEFORCE 7950 GX2 graphics card.The client PC is a Pentium IV with 2,53GHz and 1 GB RAM.I am using Active Sky Graphics.As add-ons I am using PMDDG's 747 and WILCO's 737.Thanks,Ron
March 24, 200818 yr Hi,This may be a video driver issue. Please do a uninstall-clean reinstall and see what happens.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
March 25, 200818 yr Hi Jim,do you mean to try a video driver (graphics card) update first and then the ActiveSky reinstall? ActiveSky is on the WideFS client; should the problem have to do with the video driver of the server-PC (i.e. the FS2004-PC)?Ron
March 25, 200818 yr Hi,Video driver on the server machine. There are known issues with that series card and driver issues.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
March 25, 200818 yr Thanks, Jim, for your fast support!I just updated the video driver. I will test the setup and let you know if the problem still occurs.Ron
March 27, 200818 yr Hi Jim,unfortunately the error still occurs - during the ActiveSky weather update."Server" meanes the FS-PC and "client" the AS-PC, right? On the AS-PC, the programm freezes. In the task manager it says "No response", I cannot open the program window when clicking on the task bar. Then suddenly the program box reappears during the "Synthesizing local weather data" status. Then it goes to "Updating ASG cirrus graphics". Still only this grey view on the FS-PC.It then writes the weather to the stations and as soon as the station that I am flying close to has been updated the weather (and with it also the scenery, sky, horizon etc) reappears on the server FS-PC.Strange. I hope there is some sulution for it...What about this "Write throttling?"Thanks,Ron
March 27, 200818 yr Hi,If you use FS Real Time weather does this occur? On older machines, write throttling slows down the speed at which AS writes data into FS, thus eliminating stuttering.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
March 27, 200818 yr Thanks, Jim, I'll check that. It also does not occur ALL the time.I am also using FS Real Time and Flight Deck Companion on the client, but that might not be a problem.I'll get back to you, thanks so far.Ron
April 5, 200818 yr Hey,That problem happend to me also. I'm using 1 pc (not Widsfs) with FSX and ASX. The outside view from VC get gray or green when its raining... look like the rain make that problem. Can someone help to fix it?Thanks. Sagi Yanay, VATIL NGX Driver
April 5, 200818 yr Hi,Is this with a default plane? There are rain fixes around for FS04 planes. Keep in mind this is not caused by ASX!Thanks, Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
April 5, 200818 yr Hi,actually, in my case this is not only happening when it is raining. It just happens on the way, also above clouds with no rain, whenever the updates occur. I feel strange, that ActiveSky does not react when this appears. The program is not accecible, i.e. the programm window does not open. It is just in the taskbar. Thanks,Ron
April 6, 200818 yr Hi,Don't shut down ASX while minimized to the taskbar. If you use FS weather do your planes look the same as when ASX runs?Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
April 7, 200818 yr Hello Jim,for your question - yes. It's look the same.I actually found the problem. I've deleted the files called VCrain*.* from the main texture folder and it seem to resolved the problem. Is is related to ASX? Sagi Yanay, VATIL NGX Driver
