October 8, 200817 yr When I'm watching in reallife outside it's sometimes overcast. But when I fly with FS9 in this actual weather above the clouds I see the ground while it's overcast while I'm on the ground in reallife. What are the right settings for overcast weather also above the clouds with a plane?
October 8, 200817 yr Hi,3D clouds in FSCloud Coverage Maximum.Enhanced Overcast Coverage on in AS.Default settings and weather settings off in FSUIPC.FSP locked to a low enough number in FS.Be within 2 miles of a station reporting OVC.Some users see a hole right above an airport.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/

Both sliders are to the left. 3d cloud coverage is on maximum 100% here. 3D clouds on 100%.Detaild clouds on maximum. Is that right?Enhancement Overcast Coverage on in AS was already enabled.Be within 2 miles of a station reporting OVC. Where can I find that in the AS options?
October 10, 200817 yr Hi,Sight distance and cloud draw distance can be set to whatever your system can handle.Be within 2 miles of a station is not an AS option, but a location in FS where you are within 2 miles of a station. After that 2 mile radius you may get a blending of weather from surrounding stations.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
October 10, 200817 yr But how can I resolve this and having overcast weather when it is overcast, also above the clouds?
October 10, 200817 yr Hi,I am not sure I understand your question.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
October 11, 200817 yr Sorry for my English, but I mean that I want overcast weather when it's overcast also in 'reallife', also above the clouds so without holes in the clouds and that I can't see the ground.
October 11, 200817 yr Hi,What are your system specs and what do you have your FPS locked to in FS?Also, are you limiting your cloud layers in Active Sky?Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
October 12, 200817 yr Windows XP2, Pentium 4 2 gig. FPS is locked 50. Cloud Layer Limit stays on 5. Max thickness on 10000, stratus seperation on 7000.
October 12, 200817 yr Hi,What video card?Lock your FPS at 30.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
October 13, 200817 yr Are you talking about being able to see the ground through holes in the overcast layer in FS when you can't see any holes in an overcast layer in real-life? That's a limitation within FS9 and how it renders overcast layers.----------------------------------------------------------------John MorganReal World: KGEG, UND Aerospace Spokane Satellite, Private ASEL 141.2 hrs, 314 landings, 46 inst. apprs.Virtual: MSFS 2004, MIDCON P-401"There is a feeling about an airport that no other piece of ground can have. October 13, 200817 yr NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Model 64/Model 64 Pro (32 MB)Do that make sense, FTP 30 with my problem?
October 13, 200817 yr Hi,Your video card is very under-powered for FS04.A limitation means that it is a problem in the programming in FS04 and there is nothing anyone can do to completely solve the problem. What you can do is follow the suggestions and also you may want to update your video card.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
October 15, 200817 yr As Mr. Skorna said, it's due to the hard programming of FS. It uses a thin sheet texture to simulate overcast, but the thing forms holes. Active Sky attempts to minimize this with the option to "thicken" the overcast layer. It still has it's holes, but they aren't as glaring. I've also found that setting it to "favor cumulus to stratus" works well in making full overcast layers as long as you have 3D clouds set, they just rarely look like smooth stratus layers, however.----------------------------------------------------------------John MorganReal World: KGEG, UND Aerospace Spokane Satellite, Private ASEL 141.2 hrs, 314 landings, 46 inst. apprs.Virtual: MSFS 2004, MIDCON P-401"There is a feeling about an airport that no other piece of ground can have.
