August 6, 200322 yr Well ,I installed the B25 into fs2004 ,no problems with that, but I noticed a few problems. The elevator trim is extremley sensitive even with the repeat slider bottomed out ,there seems to be no happy medium in trimming.Acceleration is extremly rapid from takeoff(maybe the reduced ground friction in fs2004)but also climbout is very rapid(had to bring the map down to 25" @ 2400 rpm and still was climbing at 2000fpm at nearly 200mph(yes I use Indicated airspeed) with a half fuel load. With fs2002 I would climbout at 35"@ 2400rpm ,1000fpm at around 170mph.One other thing, it seems when on the approach even with full flaps I am having a more nose up attitude than in fs2002.All in all it looks great in fs2004, just wondering if you guys are planning on updating the airfile for fs2004.I have not installed any other fs2002 aircraft yet but am thinking all fs2002 may have this problem now of feeling overpowered, Thankyou.
August 6, 200322 yr Hey WallaceAs you geussed its a FS2004 issue and as far as I can tell it is a major one. Just have a look at http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...12256&mode=full The B25 is also mentioned.Still hopping that Rob Young can do his usual magic but to my untrained ear it sound like he has to work blindfolded with one of his hands tied behind his back. Would be interrested to know Rob's take on this issue.
August 7, 200322 yr I was in fact the one that mentioned the B25, although I have now installed a few other aircraft (HJG DC8 and real air 172) they both seemed to perform as before in fs2002 exept for the fact that it takes more nose up pitch on approach than in fs2002. Its odd that the B25 feels so powerful in fs2004.The biggest problem to me in fs2004 is the multi monitor problems, this most definitly was a mistake by MS that got through testing, hard for me to beleive no beta testers used a multi monitor setup, or maybe this cropped up in the release version.
August 7, 200322 yr I think "sensitive" is conservative, Wallace! It could serve as the elevator!. I've just got fs9 - reinstalled BT and I have the same results as you; so I messed around with the aircraft.cfg file - specifically:-[propeller]//thrust_scalar=0.95 (was)thrust_scalar=0.75 [flight_tuning]parasite_drag_scalar=1.4//parasite_drag_scalar=1.0 (was)induced_drag_scalar=1.4//induced_drag_scalar=1.15 (was)[flight_tuning]//elevator_trim_effectiveness=1.0 (was)elevator_trim_effectiveness=.4These are the changes which I've kept: some of the changes I made to engine and prop config prevented the engines from starting: don't know how - but anyway - give these a shot: it put mine back to the original cimbout/cruise settings, as she performed in FS2K2, etc - so I'm moderately happy and I think it will work for you. We're not the only ones with this issue. Now - anyone know how to make the sound sound right when you pull back from 43"/2600 to 35"/2400?? 'cos I see (hear) no change. Am I tone-deaf from listening to these Wrights?regards,ps. The MAAM Mitchell is the best aircraft I've ever flown. Thanks Bill and the boys! My wife is jealous of a virtual aircraft. . . She just doesn't understand......
August 8, 200322 yr Well, I think I will wait till an official revised airfile is developed for BT, which Im sure they are looking into. I agree with you on the MAP it doesn't seem to change like it did in fs2002. I have to reduce power down to 25" to get a realistic climb.
August 10, 200322 yr Ok. My take after several thousand miles in Briefing Time. Both Sims.Fs2002 Gave me allmost major fits. Kindly, search for my post below. 27 clicks of down -- just to level off. Switch views and the plane needed to be leveled again from the Co-pilots view. 20 some odd clicks. Then the sudden five speaker deafening act. followed by the awesome all key stroke lock up. That is all gone now.Fs2004Now it is almost simple. No more lock ups with the the five speakers howling making a Hard Boot Needed to proceed. Ok, maybe the twisty wheel is a bit too sensitive now. But, nothing like before. I mean -- nothing like before. One click here, one click there. Ahh, heck just hit Auto Pilot and let it's self sort it out. It will do that. Power wise, I just don't know. Ain't never flown a B-25. Just a few R/C things we built. All told from an Old Geezers point of view -- it ain't too shabby. This isn't to mean that the issues shouldn't be met. It just offers my humble opinion.Frenchy -- out.
August 10, 200322 yr "The biggest problem to me in fs2004 is the multi monitor problems, this most definitly was a mistake by MS that got through testing, hard for me to beleive no beta testers used a multi monitor setup, or maybe this cropped up in the release version"Multi monitors ARE suported in FS9, just differently than 2K2. You firdt go to windowed mode, "undock" the displays and drag them where ever and then go back to full screen mode. Works fine... Mike B. (4 monitors here)
August 10, 200322 yr Im aware of that Mike, thats what I have been doing ,but that seems less advanced than fs2002, there is no reason not to be able to undock in full screen mode. And FS will not save the configuration of your undocked windows if you end a session and restart it later. Its just less elegant and seemless than it was in fs2002.
August 10, 200322 yr You're right, it's terrible compared to FS2K2, I don't know why they did what they did and I sure hope they fix it.. With the PMDG 737NG I can undock the overhead panel, drag it to the second or thrid monitor but then the main panel disappears. Get the main panel back and then the overhead disappears. Very frustrating... I have 4 monitors and so far can't get them to play like I could in 2K... Arrrgg... I havn't even installed the B25 yet as I don't want to discover "problems" with my favorite aircraft...lol Mike B.
August 11, 200322 yr I will chime in here as well - not only is it more difficult and requires Radeon users to endure siezure inducing flashing and flickering to do so, but I get a serious performance hit in full screen mode with multi monitors (I'm using a two graphic card set-up, one PCI and one AGP) that includes very annoying degredation of the sound. Step backwards in my opinion. I raised it with Microsoft and they told me that previous versions were exactly the same! I guess they are getting their money's worth from their off-shore customer care facilities. Colin
August 18, 200322 yr . . . Ya know somethin' guys - I've been running an AMD XP2100 proc in an MSI K4T mainboard, 256 MD /400DDR memory and an ATI Radeon9500 using WinXP Pro. . I've been running 2002 for 9 mths with no issues - great sim. BT for about six week - no issues - the bestest aeroplane ever!. . . About two weekends ago I purch'd fs9, installed BT, and got all the issues above.. played with everything.. read everything.. cursed Billy Gates,.. etc.. four days later (and $800 Can) (got p--- off)I moved up to an AMD XP3000/1 GB/400DDR and an Asus A7N8X Deluxe; same AGP graphics card (aperture 256 MB) - and all problems with BT went away. I reinstalled her with the standard settings - and it went back to how it was in 2002. Take-off acceleration, climb/cruise is all normal. The only thing that still bugs me is the lack of change of sound as you come back from 42" to 35" and then back to 29". . . . so I'm real sorry for the guys that can't improve their hardware, but it's been my experience that software aways drives hardware and this one (to me at any rate) seems the same. I think I got lucky. My neighbor will take my "old??" parts for a coupla hundred. I had the system for nine months... I purchased it so that I could run 2002....I seem to remember doing this for FS1, FS95, FS98, CombatFS... ...but then - I don't smoke, drink, golf, etc.. I can't afford to. I need a yoke and pedals next..pj
