B-25 "Briefing Time"

Featured Replies

Got my new toy yesterday; had a good time flying it around several places. Flew over Oshkosh and landed there. It DOES steer and handle like a 40 ft river raft made out of 3 ft diameter logs. That is to say; the thing just sits there and you really have to "sweat" to get it to turn. Given the realism that the model portrays, is that the way the real thing flies? Visually, this thing is stunning! Can't wait for the DC-3 to come along. (I know, I know; it's on it's way as we "speak"!):D

I was watching a program on the Discovery Channel the other day and was shocked to discover that the B-25 was only stressed to +3g. Not aerobatic by any stretch of the imagination so yes, I'd say that sounds about right - think `truck` not `sports car`!(-:Allcott

But she shore is purdy.

I guess I'm lucky to be alive then! Last year at the Avsim conference I had the amazing good fortune to get a ride in the real Briefing Time. I was back in the waist gunner position, so my view of the overall orientation of plane to ground was somewhat limited. I can tell you that Russ really likes to throw her around up there, though! We did what felt like a wing-over at one point and I nearly had to go chasing my stomach back to the tail gun :-erks. I guess that's what you get with a really experienced pilot that knows his plane so well.

Well Bill, the only thing I'd say about your wild ride is that the plane almost certainly loaded down with what would have been loaded as a real flight. Ammo, bombs and flight personnel and gear would have added significantly to the "feel" of the AC. Since I get motion sickness I prolly wouldn't have enjoyed it but it does sound like fun. :D

Heh, well that was part of the problem for me. Apparently I get motion sickness too, or so I discovered on that ride. I'd do it again though, even if I was a brilliant shade of green when it was all over.

Ah, come on, Keith was a far better colour than you... }( }( ;) Incidentally, on a flight back from Belfast to Liverpool a week or so back, the pilot managed to pull almost exactly the same stunts in an Easyjet B737-700, so just be glad you weren't on that flight!(I'm only joking, it was only about 2G, but in an airliner, that is ruddy uncomfortable and we were less than impressed... It's much more fun in a B25! :-hah )Ian P.BTBT Gopher and Random Beer Crate Rotator:-halo
