June 12, 200718 yr Two questions:1. If you don't have an aircraft/paint that the another person is using online, how does FSX choose a replacement? What parameters does it use to figure out what airplane that you have to use?2. What exactly does FSX look for when deciding whether or not you have the same aircraft as another user?Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)N15802 KASH '73 Piper Cherokee Challenger 180 Tom Perry
June 12, 200718 yr Commercial Member It looks first for the exact title of the aircraft as it is specified in the other player's aircraft.cfg file. If it doesn't find a perfect match in your various simobjects folders then it seems to look first for engine type, then number of engines, and then aircraft weight and reference cruise speed. The funny part is that it doesn't really discern between fixed and rotary wing. Occasionally you'll get a caravan substituted for a powerful single engine turbine helo that someone brings into your session. Also FSX doesn't have any single engine jets by default, so my Alphasim Saab Gripen often shows up as an Extra 300 to others. That's one fast Extra. ;)FSX could *really* use a substitution aliasing system that recorded the titles of every aircraft ever to appear in a multiplayer session, so that each user could specify which aircraft should be substituted in future sessions. If you fly with someone regularly but don't have their aircraft, and want to guarantee a certain aircraft gets substituted you could have your friend tell you the exact names of the planes in his aircraft.cfg file. Then make a copy of the plane you want to show up in place of his, and give its entries those names.Cheers. Mike Johnson - Lotus Simulations
June 12, 200718 yr Author Has anyone investigated if there are any spb files or simconnect controls for accessing this decision process and modifying it?The time seems really ripe for somebody to develop an addon which can do one or more of the following - 1. Search through your aircraft using a modifiable decision process and offer a pop-up to ask which aircaft to substitute for a given online flyer in your system if it can't find a good match, or give you a list of all aircraft online and allow you to choose which ones you would like to change the substitution.2. Search through both your and another person's aircraft library, and download and install missing paints for aircraft that you both have and are in use.3. If a model is compiled with some code or sequence, then the application can share that aircraft and all associated files, copyrights, readme's etc..Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)N15802 KASH '73 Piper Cherokee Challenger 180 Tom Perry
