March 31, 200422 yr I'm thinking of getting one but have 2 chief concerns...1.) I love flying at night and I'm worried that the "black of the night" won't be too black and that there will be visible ghosting on a night approach into an airport when the background is black against the approach and/or VASI lights (even with the 16 ms response time)2.) Running the LCD outside its native resolution. Instead of 1600 x 1200, I'd thought about doing 1024 x 768 to keep my frames up. What will this look like on this monitor? Can anyone with these displays please comment? THANKS!
March 31, 200422 yr Hi!I have the monitor you're talking about. I had the same concerns as you before I got this. But I can say that this is the best monitor I ever had. (And I have gone through quit a few)As for the ghosting, it is not an issue. I have tried to be critical but you will not notice/be bothered by it.Running an LCD outside its native resolution will never give you as good quality as the native. But once you've tried 1600x1200 on this monitor you will never want to run FS9 in anything else. I promise. I don't know what kind of card you're using. I'm using an ATI 9800Pro, DVI out to digital in on the monitor. I can run almost everything at max whitout any real FPS issues.Hope this helped. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask.Brgds, Fred.BTW. Benq is the company that makes these Dell LCD's. If you check out reviews about the Benq LCD's on the net you will see they always get top marks.
March 31, 200422 yr Thanks for the reply. Can you be more specific about running in non-native mode? Does it just make it blurry beyond useability or is it just "slightly noticeable"?Thanks for your help.
April 2, 200422 yr I would lean towards slightly noticable, but when you compare it to how it looks in native mode you will of course see the difference.I was running the latest Jedi Knight game in 1200x1024 because of a slow down-bug before the patch came out. It looked great even though it wasn't the monitors native mode.I guess it depends on what you look at. Most games will look good in any resolution, but 2D graphics like the desktop will not look as good.Fred
April 2, 200422 yr I have the same setup as you, Fred. I never bothered however, to use the DVI cable. Is there any difference between the standard hookup and switching to DVI? John
