Anyway im looking forward to clocking up a lot of NM's in this :)
April 2, 200422 yr That's a nice system you got there Ben. More and more people these days are pushing 3g's, which in turn pushes me further and further into obsoletion. Ah well, I'm holding out for the 5g's anyway, what's the point of upgrading unless one is at least doubling performance? if anything's worth doing, it's worth doing right, I always say...What were your original system specs and performance compared to now? Why'd you buy instead of build this time?Andre
April 2, 200422 yr Here is a nice story from my friend LuckyboyFishDude! Let's see... here are just a few of the lies that Dell so willingly told me...1) You must purchase your additional RAM from Dell to prevent damage to your system. I bought two sticks of 128 MB 800 RAMBUS RDRAM from my local lil 'puter store and it runs just fine and dandy.2) The lie about the power supply has aready been covered earlier in this thread.3) Your bios dosen't support any upgrades of the CPU. This was when I had a 1.7 GHZ Pentium IV and went to a 2.4 GHz Pentium IV with same speed front side buss with no problems whatsoever. After the fourth phone call, they finally admitted it would work and asked me to buy it from them at a cost of over $700.00 U.S.4) Windows XP does not support RAID. I bought a serial ATA controller card from Promise and a 36 GB Western Digital Raptor hard drive and they work great!5) You must buy any new hard drives from Dell to prevent damage to your system. See lie number 4 for details on that one!6) IL-2 Forgotten Battles is a known conflict with both my operating system and Dell bios. Of course, when my friend who actually like, paid the extra money to get his copy of IL-2 FB through Dell called, they said IL-2 FB was just fine.7) They claimed my Hewlette Packard 656c printer (I didn't buy it from them) was causing me problems with poor performance.8) Hey, look, I'm gonna get writers cramp just covering the greatest hits of their lies!
