May 19, 200422 yr Commercial Member No, Socket 940 is the current FX/Opteron socket. Socket 939 is going to be replacing both 940 and the Socket 754 that the regular A64's use right now. I'd neard mid-summer for the first releases. These are also the ones that are going to support Dual Channel DDR... May 22, 200422 yr So it would be a good idea to wait for Socket 939, then I can have a regualar 64BIT, then later if I want to upgrade I can go for a 64bitFX?
May 24, 200422 yr I just purchased a new Athlon 64 3200+ processor. Will it fit the new Socket 939 version motherboard? Thanks for the info,Gary
May 24, 200422 yr No, after doing lots of reading, it will not fit, you can only use Socket 754 chips.
