June 2, 200422 yr Doing a CPU upgrade on my aging Dell, to hold off from buying a new system. Any ideas how well this will run MSFS 2004? Dell 8100 upgraded to Pentium 4, 2.6 ghz, 400 fsb, Socket 478Radeon 9800 pro 128mb512 MB RDRAMEcho Mia soundcard2 x 40gb Seagate HDCurrently its a 1.7ghz CPU. With medium autogen, clouds and scenery detail plus GA Traffic, ActiveSky, FSForce and FS Terrain mesh all installed it does about 18 fps locked in VFR over rural areas, dropping to around 10 over cities, and as low as 6 over big enhanced airports. I want to run the FSD Piper Navajo, and am hoping the upgrade will make the difference.Any predictions?
June 7, 200421 yr You should see some improvement. However, there could be a problem with upgrading - Dell uses parts made especially for them by other manufacturers, and while the retail version of your component may be upgradeable without problems, the Dell version of the same component may not. So it's best to check first before shopping ;).Cheers,Gosta.http://www.hifisim.com/images/as2betateam.jpg
June 7, 200421 yr ThanksIts a Powerleap adapter upgrade to enable use of Socket 478 CPU's and I've read reviews of it being tested on Dells so I think I'm OK.
