June 5, 200422 yr Hi all! I'm sure this question has been asked before so here it is again. I am looking at getting a new gaming computer and I'm not sure what chip to go with. The guy at the computer shop said his choice would be the Athlon 64 FX53 ($1149 can). I was looking at the Intel P4 3.4Extreme($1479 can). I've always used Intel chips, but I'm really not technical enough to know what is better. His thoughts was the Extreme chip is not worth the $1000 more then the other chips(meaning the Prescott chip). The benchmarks say the AMD FX53, but in an artical here I read with regards to the alienware area 51 they would not coment on the 64 bit processors nor did they like them at this time. The system so far that I'm looking at is:AMD FX53 chipASUS SK8V motherboard1 gig Corsair XMS 3200 XL PRO2 36 gig Raptor drives in a Raid config256 ASUS Radeon X800 PRO/TD/Audigy Z ZS PlatinumAntec truepower 550w.XP home.Which is the better chip, Intel or go for the 64 bit AMD?I don't want to spend my money and be disappointed.Huggs Kittie
June 5, 200422 yr Commercial Member Don't get that ridiculously overpriced AMD FX or Intel EE stuff unless you just have money to burn.I'd wait another couple weeks until the Socket 939 Athlon 64's are availiable and get one of those along with an nForce 3 250Gb based motherboard. (Abit or ASUS are my favs) That way you'll be able to run dual channel memory and it's gonna be a lot cheaper than the FX. (which has to run slower registered memory by the way...) The new socket gives you upgradability for the future too.Pair the CPU/mobo up with one of the new ATI Radeon X800 cards and you're gonna have a screaming fast machine for FS2004...
