ATI 4.7 Drivers and FS2004

Featured Replies

I noticed in the readme for the drivers, it says display corruption was fixed on certain aircraft in FS2004. Has anybody who installed these yet found any "fixed" problems? How about the mouse in the selection screen? Does it still fall behind the spinning aircraft model? Would you recommend upgrading to them?

Hi,I don't think they fixed the mouse in the selection screen. I guess I never paid that issue much attention as it hasn't really bothered me. I think the display corruption on certain aircraft was fixed in the 4.6's, which is what I'm currently using. Well, the Omega version anyway. I believe this issue is the blurry textures that occured on paints that have mip-map's. I noticed right away that I all paints were sharp now and I never see blurries on any paints after I upgraded from 4.2's to 4.6's. IQ is improved over the 4.2's. Sorry I'm not answering specifically about the 4.7's. Maybe I'll install them soon. But it was only recently that I installed the 4.6's so I have decided to enjoy them for a bit first.Regards,Jim

Anyone see any performance improvements with the 4.7's over the 4.6?Best,Joel

I saw a nice FPS increase with the 4.6's; this has carried over into the 4.7's as well. The curruption problem they fixed in the 4.7 was when, in cockpit view while parked, if you call up the menu bar (Alt key while in full screen mode), the outside view was all garbled. This has been fixed. Interestingly enough, when in windowed mode, the cursor does appear around the spinning airplane and one can tilt the plane by dragging the mouse. This does not occur when in full screen mode, at least on my system.Larry S.P.S. With the 4.7's, I find that I can set the mip mapping to a 5 setting without the objectionable hashing that occurred before. This makes for shaper textures. I have not tried anything higher yet.

Concerning mipmap level settings in FS, I also saw quite a big improvement in this area (and also FPS) with the 4.7's. A addon scenery I use, asks for a mipmap setting of 6 even! I tried it, and lo and behold alot less ground texture shimmering when flying low then before.I now fly with the mipmap 6 setting everywhere and gives razor sharp textures. One downside to this though, it gives a heck of a lot stuttering when flying with high detail water. But otherwise I recommend these drivers. Also improvement in Aquamark and 3DMark 03 was seen.

Hi All,Well I installed the 4.7's. Larry was right with what he said about what the corruption issue was that is now fixed. I had been having a problem with losing Anti-Aliasing with every version of the driver since 4.2's. This is also fixed. No more loss of AA. And performance is really good as noted by CargoMun. When it comes to FS2004, for me these are the best ATI Catalyst driver's I've installed since the 4.2's.Cheers,Jim

I was having a once-per-second stutter when flying with lots of clouds. I had traced it to my firewall program and dealt with it by shutting it down when using FS.IT HASN'T BEEN HAPPENING AT ALL SINCE I INSTALLED THE 4.7'S!Has anyone else noticed smoothness benefits?
