July 16, 200421 yr Hey guys:My system is quite old but still good enough for FS2002 when I set for 640 * 480. But then I started play FS2004 and uninstalled fs2002. The problem is it takes ages to show up textures. for example, when u change view mode to outside of the airplane, the model of the aircraft and whole airport shows up first but NO TEXTURES ON, therefore, I have to wait like 2 mins to wait for all texture be put on their position, during that time, my harddriver working hard all the time. Then u change back to inside and outside of airplane again, the same thing happen again, I dont want to fly any more if like that...........crying.........now, I got enough money for upgrade my computer, but only can buy one stuff, Ram or Videocard, here is my system, plz give me a suggestion to slove that problem.AMD XP 2200+256MB DDR PC2100Geforce 2 mx 100/200, 32mb video ram40GB HD
July 16, 200421 yr Well honestly you need both but I would go for the memory now since you can not afford both. I do not think that you will see much if any increase in the FPS but you will see a big difference when you change views, that is little or no wait time. I am guessing that you are running Windows XP???? If so XP really needs a minimum of 512 MB to be able to run FS9 correctly but the more the better. I had 512MB for quite some time and ran FS9 very happily with that, on occasion I would have a short wait (couple of seconds) for textures to load with dense sceneries but it was ok. I recently went up to 1024MB and now there is no waiting for the textures to load at all but as I said there was really no increase in frame rate. July 16, 200421 yr Sorry Philip, but I recommend that he gets a new video card... ASAP! The GF2 series cards were very good (though his is a lowly MX series), but those cards saw their best days long ago. The rest of his system isn't too bad, and upgrading the VC to something like an nVidia 5700 or ATI 9600 would make a huge difference in his simming experience. If money allows, clearly more memory is called for. Ordering at least another 256Mb with a new video card would be the best scenario. 256Mb of PC2100 can usually be had at a good price.Regards,Greg
July 17, 200421 yr I don't know, the reason I picked memory over video card is because his main complaint is texture load times and memory will do more to fix that issue than a video card will. We all agree that he needs both but if he really only can get one I think that the memory will better serve his chief complaint. Of course I could be wrong. Nah, that could never happen! :-) Take care Greg.Best Regards,Philip Olsonhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpg
