CH Yoke Configuration?

Featured Replies

I am a newcomer to FS and this forum. I have a CH Flight Sim Yoke USB.With it I am unable to get a 737 off the ground although once it did go up "accidentally." There is no documentation or help guide with it.There are two levers to the right of the throttle. What are they for? When I touched them with the 737 loaded the idle numbers went haywire or the engine stalled. How do you use them and why? What is that round protruding button on the far left?Any suggestions on configuration?? It does work with the Cessna but it seems to be developing issues.Any advice and especially hands on walk through will be deeply appreciated. Even by phone. I'll be happy to call at your convenience.Thank you.Louis EW

Hi Louis,Welcome to FS and the forum! You'll find a lot of helpful souls around here that are more than happy to share what they know. I'll start the ball rolling regarding your yoke questions...First off, if you're new to FS you've picked quite a challenge for yourself flying a 737! I'd suggest that you start with a Cessna and work your way up, much the way it's done in real life. You'll gain valuable skills along the way, and you'll have a great time too. By the time you work your way up to an airliner, you'll be a pro and it won't be nearly the challeng for you it is now. I've been 'simming for years, and I still get frustrated with airliners, so don't despair! The levers to the right of the throttle are generally used for prop pitch and mixture. Of course, in your 737 there aren't any props so the pitch is meaningless. Likewise the mixture, as you're not dealing with a piston engine either. It sounds like your controls are mapped to something other than the above though, so the first thing is to go into your controller assignments setup and find out what they're mapped to. Then you can change the assignments as you see fit.The round button on the left is a sort of crude elevator trim. It actually rotates the potentiometer inside the controller that the push/pull of the yoke is attached to. I don't know if CH intended it to be used as an actual trim button, but I always found mine too stiff to be useful in that capacity, and just centered it and left it alone.I don't know if you're new to the concepts of real-world flying, but even if you are I'd suggest that you go through at least some of the lessons in FS first off. They do a good job of getting you acclimated, not only to flying but to flying the "FS way".Hope that helps a little,

It (your input) helps a lot. Actually I am content crawling and inching ahead slowly. I thought it would be fun just to get a 737 up, but see that I need to wait until I'm ready.CH support suggests that I don't touch that wheel as it is "preset at the factory and could affect all the calibrations." According to the assignments, the grey rocker switch on the upper left of the yoke is used for trim - a concept that I am right now grappling with and am just starting to understand.BTW, do you have any foreknowledge of the Throttle Quadrant CH is supposd to release soon and how it will work with and enhance the yoke?Louis

Yeah, I'd agree with CH on not messing with that wheel to the left. You are probably better off trimming with the rocker switches. The CH Throttle Quadrant is a sore subject w/me, as they just keep putting off its release ad infinitum. The latest I've heard is that it was scheduled to be released mid-August, but that they pulled the production run because of a quality assurance problem. I don't think they've set a new release target yet. This throttle promises to be a great addition to the flight rig for anyone who flies multi-engine aircraft because it'll have 6 levers that can be assigned, for instance, to throttle, prop and mixture for two engines, much as a real world throttle quadrant. I'm looking forward to it; I just hope they can get the quality problem solved and get them out the door fairly soon.thanks,

Didn't mean to bring up a sore subject. Can I ask you one other thing - would it be of any benefit to my CH to add FSUIPC? If so, which version?I tried to get a straight answer from Peter, its creator, but he gives short smart-#### replies and strikes me as an arrogant buffoon albeit a skilled flightsimmer and programmer.(Hope he's not a friend of yours!)Louis
