September 5, 200421 yr HiI am having slight issues now and then with FS9 and wanted to check a few things with you guy's to see what you think.I am running Windows XP Pro in 1600x1200 with 85hz refresh on both 22" monitors as they are the same.I use the second monitor in FS9 for FS Nav.my graphics card settings are as followsCAT 4.8's 1600x1200 32bit, and Anti-Aliasing set to 6x(and turned OFF in the sim) with Temporal Anti-Aliasing set to Quality, also the Anisotropic Filtering is set to 16x, all are on the Quality Mode,my Texture Preference is High Quality and MipMap Detail Level is High Quality also, the Wait for Vert Sync is on Application Preference and Truform on Always Off.I was wondering if you thought it would be OK to run the sim on 1600x1200 mode, I must admit I do like windows etc on 1600x1200 and my other applications / games run just fine on this setting.also can someone please tell me what the mipmap and wait for vert sync and trueform actually do. as I have no real idea, and while were talking about it, whats the anisotropic filtering for.I apologise if this is going back to basics for some of you, but I just never really got around to reading up on these before now.thanks for you're time allSteve.

BTW Temporal anti-aliasing will not work woth FS so if you have a switchable option, turn that OFF. Mipmapping increases detail into the distance, at the cost of frames. Mipmapping in FS is a little strange, as the in-game setting can't really be higher than 4 or 5 or else the shimmering is terrible.Leave Vsync on application preference or ON, for greatest fps:image quality equation. Vertical synchronisation limits the fps to the refresh rate of the monitor (it's not as simple as that but I'm sure you can find a technical site if you want to know what these things do). As FS operates below the threshold of most monitors refresh rates (85mhz in your case) it's best to leave it ON or Application Preference so that triple buffering can do its thing. Vsync OFF usually leads to `tearing` of the image, particularly in the VC when panning, seen as the top half of the image not keeping pace with the bottom half when the image is tracked left-to-right or the other way.If you plug any of those expressions into the Google search engine you can find brief (and long) technical descriptions of what they are and what they do.Allcott
September 5, 200421 yr Hi Allcotthank you for the reply, I think I have the general idea now, whats the Truform do though, I don't know what its for, do you! and the Anisotrophic filtering also, thanks again AllcotSteve.
September 6, 200421 yr Are you kidding me???What in game settings do you run with that allows you to run at 1600x1200x32 with 6xaa with temporal aa and 16x quality anisotropic on a 9800 PRO??I would love your magic setup my computer can
September 6, 200421 yr My frames run between 30 to 200+ depending on where I'm flying and what I'm looking at using dxt3 textures; at 4xAA & 8xAF (Performance) at 1400x1050x32 res running trilinear filtering. But my AI is set to zero!!! and my Terrain Mesh is set to 85 percent!! Both of those are CPU killers. Everything else maxed with shadows off and running Chris' clouds with vis at 80miles. It's kinda strange. My 9700Pro (which broke) looked great at 16xAF. The 9800Pro looks not too good at 16xAF; but looks as good or better at 8xAF than the 9700Pro did at 16xAF. Go figure?? Whatever works!!
September 6, 200421 yr And you get that in cities like KSEA as well? I think I need to stop running 100 % mytraffic 2004 :(
