October 20, 200421 yr After using FS98 on my snail-pace computer several years ago, and then having left the Flight Sim world for a while,I finally am upgrading to a faster computer, specially for FS2004. Computer is in the mail from DELL Deminsion 8400.I've ordered the nVidia6800GTO, then somewhere out here saw that some were having problems with the ULTRA. !! Did I blow it?Some specs on the computer---PN4 550 3,4 Hz-Windows XP Home-nVidia, as I said-2 GB, 533Mhz memory That's about all I know...Any help greatly appreciated...Bill Youhass
October 20, 200421 yr no you didnt blow it..I am using the 6800 GT overclocked to 404/1.1 (with coolbits) and it rocks!! My CPU is a p$ 3.2 and the combination of those two gives me some pretty awesome numbers..I am an FPS freak and I hate FPS that most people consider "playable"...to me 20 FPS is NOT playable...30+ is very playable...this card gives me that and a lot more!! You will be pleased with the card.
October 20, 200421 yr Author Thanks for the encouraging words ! Whew!! I'm no computer techhi, obviously.. others were talking about..water or clouds not being so good, antialiasing, etc. I was sort of into FS several years ago on my old 333 Mhz machine! :>) So I'm looking into learning everything all over again...what's coolbits? overclocking I've heard of..a bit
October 20, 200421 yr yeah coolbits is an overclocking utility that installs into your windows registry...all you have to do is d/l it and double click on it..when you go to your advanced properties for your video card settings you will see the addition there....be careful and dont overclock too much...with the standard heatsink I can get 404 very comfortable but 410 and the graphics get a bit shaky...
October 20, 200421 yr Author Thanks again,When the computer and FS2004 gets here I'll get cool bits, at avsim, I assume, haven';t looked yet, and I'll probably have a gazillion more questions... great site!
October 21, 200421 yr 6800GTO is NOT an 6800GT I believe it is a 12 or less pipeline part a GT has 16 just as the ultra does and so your performance will be somewhat below the GT and Ultra's....would advise for a real GT.
October 21, 200421 yr Author Thanks for the info. Well, the 6800GTO is on its way with the Dell computer, so guess I'll use it for a while...I'll have nothing to compare it to by experience . So perhaps I could up-grade at some point...I'd already spent days trying to figure out what to do...had trouble with the login here, got so many different ideas from other sources, I finally decided to 'decide' and and made the purchase.BTW, when will your Rochester Scenery be available? Looks cool...
