October 29, 200421 yr How much improvement would one expect to see in performance between the old Athlon XP 3000+ and the Athlon 64 3000+? Would it be worth the upgrade? The new 90mm 939 3000+ can be obtained at a great price and supposedly are very good for overclocking to about 3500+ with standard air cooling. I'd like to hear some people's responses concerning their experience to upgrading to an Athlon 64 from a system similar to mine. I am currently using the Athlon XP 3000+ (333bus) with the following components:1G of 333 SDRAMATI 9800 Pro
October 29, 200421 yr I just went from xp 2700 to 64 3400 last night. Nothing mind blowing. You can look up the benchmark if you want--I used www.xbitlabs.com
October 30, 200421 yr I upgraded to a AMD 64 3200 from a 1800. What I would like to point out though is, while my own upgrade was very significant, Running on the Windows Xp 64 beta my FS improvements were even more significant. No FS 2004 is not a 64 bit aplication but it does benifit from the 64 bit technology.
October 30, 200421 yr Well it's definitely an improvement I'll admit. Flying PMDG 738 around SimFlyer's isn't a lot of chore like it used to be--meaning I can actually hand fly now! But this is still without everything maxed out--most of my sliders are at 3/4 or 4/5 rather than full. 60% clouds, High coverage, 60mi drawing with AS2004 4.5 is a treat :) (I could easily go 80%, but I didn't see that much of a difference).I get about 20fps average... about 40 average with simpler aircraft like RealAir Scout. Here's what I run with:AMD 64 3400+ Newcastle @2.4GHz (no overclock)Radeon 9800Pro 128MB1GB DDR400 KingstonWin XP SP2FS 9.1/AS2004 4.5All I'm saying is that, for you, going from xp 3000 to 64 3000 may not be as big--I'd wager about 110-120% without overclocking. FOr me personally, this upgrade gave me about 120-145% improvement, but that's also because I went from Radeon 9600P to 9800P.
