Is ATI 9600 more expensive that GeForce FX5200?

Featured Replies

Or am I dreaming? Given the option of both, which one would be better for FS9?My local hardware provider has given his quotation as such.GeForce Fx 5200 AGP Card [128MB] - Rs 4,200/-ATI Radeon 9600 AGP card - Rs 3,400/-Please enlighten me.Thanks,JineshIndia.

Hi Jinesh, if you didn't invert the prices, that's great news! Here in Europe it would be the other way around. The 5200 ca.25% cheaper than a 9600. Technically, the 9600 is a bit better, and will not fold with FS's weather and you should be able to use 4xAA @ 1024x. I doubt you could use 4xAA @1024x on the 5200. Only if you're into Linux or 3D glasses and alike, a Nvidia may be more advantageous. You can check this page for Ati specs: http://www.rojakpot.com/default.aspx?locat...&var1=88&var2=0You'll find a link to Nvidia's specs there too. Hope this enlightens, good luck and kind regards Jaap How much is 4200 Rupies in Euros or $?

Sure! on the double as the sky is blue...!!! I haven't inverted the prices. Thanks for the link.1 US$ = Rupess 47 (approx)Computers and paraphernalia subject to 4.6% sales taxThanks and kind regards,Jinesh.

Hi Jinesh, the Ati really looks like a good deal then. Here are some European prices for your reference: The 128MB 9600 sells for ca. 4400 Rupies. Or, I recently paid 4700 Rupies for a passively cooled 256MB 9600. A Nvidia 128MB 5200 goes for approx. the same price you were quoted. A 128MB 9600pro sells for some 5100 Rupies. On the technical side: A 9600pro will outperform the 9600 non-pro by ca. 30%. If you want, take another look at the clock frequencies @ Rojak. The 9600pro is ca. 330MHz and the 9600 ca. 220MHz. That's why the 'pro' will outperform the 'non-pro' by a certain margin. It's the only technical difference. Maybe most importantly and my main purpose of responding, Jinesh, please make sure you're really obtaining a 9600 and not i.e. a 9600'SE'!?! 'SE' is ok for mainboards, but hardly ever for display adapters. The low price raises my suspicion, you might have been quoted a SE? So, watch out! Hope this helps and my 'SE-uspicion' is wrong! Cheers, good luck and kind regards again Jaap

Whoa Jaap, thanks for the pointer. The price quoted was for the 9600, not the 9600Pro.I better watch out!!:-hah Thanks mucho again,Jinesh.

You're welcome, Jinesh. I hope my words were transparent enough; the 9600 really looks like a very fair deal pricewise. And please just make sure it isn't a 9600-SE, which is a 'cut-in-half' 9600. Cheers, good luck and kind regards Jaap

personally i would not entertain either of those cards if you intend to run FS, i would even go so far as saying you'd be better off with a second hand ti 4600 which would be faster tand a lot cheaper than either of those cards.

Thanks Bruce and JaapRegards,Jinesh.
