November 10, 200421 yr Hey guys,I got my new 9800PRO (MSI RX9800PRO) 128mb and 256bits, Im wondering how to tweak it to get the best results on FS9, Im quite a new guy in FS tweaking and Im wondering if you guys could give me a hand with this issue also helping me to choose a driver. Also with all sliders maxed w/ C172 and thunderstorms in the area Im getting abour 25-30fps is this normal or I should be getting more? remeber I got the drivers that comes with the CD from the videocard box , there're no tweaking, just 2X AA and 4X AF.My sys specs are:P4 3.0ghz Prescott512 DDR120GBRadeon 9800 PRO 128Win XP Any help will be really appreciated,Thx for your time.
November 10, 200421 yr hehe, wish I had those fps. Sounds like you're doing pretty good. I'd turn up aa to 4x, and if you have maxed out sliders there's nothing to do there. Don't use aa in the game, turn it off. Sounds like you're rocking. Welcome!!!And get Active Sky 2004, FS Navigator, Ultimate Traffic, PMDG 737 series and RFP 747...billg
November 10, 200421 yr "I got the drivers that comes with the CD from the videocard box , there're no tweaking, just 2X AA and 4X AF."Don't know if your CD included the Catalyst Control Center, but if it did you might consider uninstalling it (and all the .NET stuff that's required to make it run). The standard Catalyst Control Panel works quite well and consumes far fewer resources. The only advantage of the CCC is that it is skinable... which is alright if you're into that sort of thing. There are a number of "tweaked" driver sets available that work quite well in this sim. Probably the most popular is the Omega drivers. Omega has taught the Gods how to tweak drivers, and it would be an understatement to say that he is good at it! He is the only tweaker that works with the good graces of ATI. http://www.omegadrivers.net/ If you use his drivers please doante to his efforts or at least click the ads on his site. The community is so much better because of folks like Omega.Another great choice for tweaked driver sets is the UniAN's. http://www.atimania.com/ Click on the UniAN link on the left side of the page and then download the 1.1.49's dated 9/20.Once you're ready to change drivers (and it's very easy to do) go here and download Driver Cleaner: http://www.drivercleaner.net/ Driver Cleaner is an indispensable tool for ridding your system of old drivers. You can also clean away nVidia video drivers, Creative drivers, and numerous others. Very handy tool but be sure to use it just as the Readme directs. Do it the right way and your system will stay clean.Uninstall the stock drivers and tweaker (whether it be Catalyst Control Center or Catalyst Control Panel). Use Driver Cleaner to clean away all registry entries for the old drivers. Reboot and cancel any "Install new Hardware" windows that pop-up. Now go to the .exe of your new drivers and proceed with the install. After install and reboot Windows might start slow and then the screen go black for several seconds. All is OK... it's just the GART tables being read by the drivers.Once the new drivers are on-board it's time to get to tweakin'. First thing is to shut down some uneeded services that are installed with ATI drivers. Click on Start>Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services. In the window that you now see are the "ATI Hotkey Poller" and "ATI Smart" services. Unless you use the Hotkey function of ATI drivers (few folks do) you don't need it running. ATI Smart is meaningless on your card and can also be disabled. Now reboot. These two services are installed each time new driver sets are installed.Once Windows comes back on-line right click anywhere on your empty desktop. Now click on Properties>Settings. Set your prefered desktop resolution and make sure the Color Quality is set to 32 bit. Now click on Advanced to tweak the drivers. You should see something like this (I use the Omega drivers):http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/96918.jpgClick on the VPU Recover tab and disable it. Click on the SMARTGART tab to make sure the AGP setting is running at what your motherboard can handle (should be 8X on your system). Click on the Options tab... you can safely disable all the boxes on that page. Click on the Monitor tab and set the correct Refresh Rate for your system.Next click on the 3D tab (or it could be "Advanced 3D" depending upon what driver set you chose). It should look something like this:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/96919.jpgWith your system you should be able to run Anisotropic Filtering at 8X and Anti-Aliasing at 4X. Some prefer a higher AF setting (I do) while others prefer a higher AA setting. These two settings are entirely user dependent... set them so that your screen image looks best for you. I'd recommend (with the latest ATI driver sets) that you Force AF for this sim, and an AA setting with something like T2 or T3 is useless in FS9. Forcing the AF level you choose makes the drivers truly work at that level, and T2/T3 refers to Temporal AA. A cool feature but you'd be hard pressed to make it work correctly at the FPS most FS9'ers see in sim. Set all the other tweaks on the page as you see them in the screen shot. Now go here and see my post #12: http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...g_id=2504&page= Be sure to install the correct drivers for your monitor. Finally, go into the sim and then to your Display settings. On the Hardware page make sure that the AA box is unchecked. Checking it makes the sim render AA (at an ugly 2X), which will effectively make your very nice video card useless as a performance enhancement to your system.Hope this helps,Greg
