Wide Aspect LCD Monitors

Featured Replies

I've noticed that wide aspect monitors are starting to be available more often. Was wondering if there would be any advantages as far as viewing sims. Such as, would you see more or would things just be more stretched out, width wise. (if that makes sense) John

I bought a 16 by 10 CRT recently. Given you have set your resolution to a widescreen ratio it will work just fine. Nothing will be stretched. And yes, you will see more. However be advised that the graphics card will have to render more pixels as well. This only works in 3D though. The 2D panels will get stretched as they are based on 4:3 bitmaps. This doesn't bug me at all as I am flying exclusively from the VC anyway. Of course you could also do some panel work and make a 2D panel fit a 16/9 ratio. This works well with FS2K4 as well as with other games. I tried Vietcong and Fist Alpha which are the only Games I have installed right now next to FS9 but I guess this should work with almost any game in 3D.Alex

Thanks for the reply. I was kind of wondering about the 4:3 ratio in regards to FS9, but never gave a thought about the graphics card rendering more pixels. Something to ponder. John
