December 31, 200421 yr Hi,I assume that having a bloated registry full of rubbish has a detrimental effect on FS performance, aswell as general performance.Which tools do people think are "safe" to do the job of cleaning and otimising such an essential part of the OS.Dan.
December 31, 200421 yr Hi Dan,I can recommend two products:Registry Healer: www.fixregistry.com/regheal/Registry Compressor (previously known as Registry Compactor): http://www.rosecitysoftware.com/RegistryCompressor/I have used both for some time and they have served me very well. You may have noted the occasional posts from me in which I have stated that I have never needed to reinstall or reformat since installing Windows XP in mid 2002. System performance is maintained and I attribute this success in part to these two utilities :)Regards,Mike
December 31, 200421 yr Thanks Mike,I too have not had to reinstall XP once since I put it on at release, I did a reg-backup the other day and noticed it was now 110mb, which I think is pretty big. so nows the time to clean up a bit.Dan.
December 31, 200421 yr Hi Dan,Upon Mike's recommendation some time ago I've been using Reghealer and am very happy with it. It has become one of my most important maintenance tools.I use NTREGOPT for registry optimization. Easy to use and quick (for me). http://home.t-online.de/home/lars.hederer/erunt/I've been using RegCleaner too long to let go of it. While Reghealer is far more powerful for registry cleaning, RegCleaner is still very useful for a number of other maintenance tasks. http://www.worldstart.com/weekly-download/...-cleaner4.3.htmCCleaner has proven to be very useful as well. Very configurable and easy to use system cleaner. http://www.ccleaner.com/Cheers,Greg
