January 30, 200521 yr Alright, I'm lost. What I want to do is max out FS9 on my current system as best I can . . . this is my rig.Sony System - Useless Bios for overclocking.PIV 2.81.5 G pc3200 Ram80G & 300G drivesAGP 4/8x slot has Nvidia FX5200 128mb dual port1 PCI fx5200 256mb single port3 flat panel 1280x1024 sony monitorsOnboard sound SoundMax Digital250watt power supplycddvd/rXP Pro SP2Getting 14-16 fps sliders medium. Some light stagger. What I'm considering is the fx5200 cards and swapping them out for ??? I would like to keep all three monitors up. Not sure if it is better to keep center screen on a PCI bus and put the side screens on AGP or vice-versa.I have no problems swapping the power supply for something with more umph but I don't want to spend 800 bucks on a couple of ATI800's. Is there a reasonable solution to this problem? Any idea on what kind of frame rate I might expect? I've been up and down these boards looking and thought it was best to post my system specs. Any help greatly appreciated.Thanks.Tom
January 30, 200521 yr Well mobos only come with one AGP slot anyway so you're stuck with a PCI card if you want more than two displays. Only one of those new expensive PCI-e boards would solve that. You'll probably have to keep the PCI 5200 because I really don't think there are any better PCI cards out there. Use that for one monitor, the one that will display the least details obviouly (e.g. if you use one monitor for just 2D panels let the PCI card take care of those). Not sure if it's better to have two Nvidia cards when combining them, someone else will have to answer that. In that case get the 6800GT. Otherwise you may want to consider the X800XT as well as it's slightly faster in FS2004 and supposedly puts out slightly better image quality. You'll probably need a new PSU as well, 400W or more (sais I who's running my X800XT off a 240W PSU :-lol), look for Antec, Thermaltake, Enermax etc. -
January 31, 200521 yr Thanks JimmiG for taking the time to respond. I think thats probably a good approach. Never considered the PCI Express thing before. Do the new mobo's support multi PCI express cards? If so that would be the ticket. Thanks again.
