Dual screen problem

Featured Replies

My Grandson has just finished building me a new computer to replace the three year old model that found it hard to cope with the demands of FS2004.I also decided to splash out on a second monitor, with which to view the GPS,Radio, Throttle etc.I went into Display Properties/Settings, selected the second monitor, and checked that the "Extend my windows desktop to this monitor" box was ticked.I then fired up the Flight Sim, went into windowed mode, and from my normal 2D panel window, I then un-ticked the "unlock view" indicator. This allowed me to move the Cockpit, Spot plane, Tower views etc. to the second monitor, but would not permit me to move the GPS picture out of the first monitor into the second. It seems only to work for the prescribed views in the Views list, although I know from reading other correspondence, that it is possible to use these other itme in the second monitor.I would be most grateful for any help that anyuone could give me with this problem.Thank youProcessor AMD Athlon

Hi Biggles,As one aged Brit to another I felt I had to reply to your cry for help :-)You don't say what aircraft you using but load the default 737 and try this. Click the GPS icon on the glare screen (3rd from right). This will display the gauge. Then right-click on the gauge and choose Undock Window. This then becomes a stand-alone window that you can then move to the other display. You appear to have undocked the entire panel which is probably not what you wanted to do.Same applies to any of the other windows such as radio, compass etc.I see you're mixing CRT and TFT screens. Make sure you set your CRT to 1280*960 to retain the correct ratio of 4:3. The TFT should be used at its native resolution of 1280*1024 of course.Hope that helps!

Just a note from an aged Yank. I am going through the same process as you (just entering the dual monitor world).I read an article at www.microsoft.com that specifically addresses using dual monitors with FS9. They state that if the GPS and/or ATC window is moved from the pimary monitor, it will adversely impact performance. I had been sliding the GPS over to the second monitor but have quit. So far I can't say that I notice much difference but I'll run it this way a while and see how it works. R-

Hi Ron Would you be a little more specific. I looked on the Microsoft site you recommended, but could not find the article you mentioned.Does it have a Knowledge Base number, so that I can track it down? Many thanks

Many thanks for the heads up.

Nope, it was a different article. I stubbled across it by accident and did not mark it or note its number. I'll try to fumble my way through the knowledge base again or maybe find a child to help me. R-

I did not find the article that I recall but I'm sure that I started from Knowledge Base 823629. This led me to 815069. Both of these contain helpful info but there's still another one I'm certain. I'll continue to poke around and report back if I find anything else. R-

Hi RonMany thanks for your diligence in the quest for the article you mentioned. I have to report that with a little help from Ray (above) I am obtaining very satisfactory results in moving the GPS, Trottle quadrant and ATC over the second monitor.I then come out of windowed mode into the full screen mode, and with my new rig have little or no frame rate deduction. It is certainly a totally different experience to have the infomation spread over such an area, not interupting the cockpit view.RegardsProcessor AMD Athlon
