March 11, 200521 yr Hi,I recently upgraded to a ATI 9800 Pro graphics card and I'm using the latest Omega drivers (2.6.05a).I've been messing around with the settings in the control panel and within FS2004, but I've yet to find the best settings. I read somewhere on the forums to turn off filtering in FS and set it on the ATI control panel, but when I do this the graphics in FS go all blocky and horrible. Can other 9800 pro users tell me how to set both my card and FS so I can get the best performance? setting by setting would be lovely! Also, I'm getting a stutter of about 1/2 to 1 seconds when I make big turns during taxiing or airboune. I've looked at a lot of options to sort this, but nothings working for me. Any tips? Many ThanksAdeyhttp://members.lycos.co.uk/electronicplayg...0easydriver.jpg
March 11, 200521 yr Personally I'm more concerned with picture quality than framerate performance, which anyway is ok, if not excellent. I use an LCD with 1280*1024 resolution, and I like to set 2X or 4X AA (with higher screen resolution you can get by with 2X without getting jaggies) and 16X Anisotropic filtering to maximise picture quality. In fs i have AA turned off and use trilinear filtering. Turning off filtering within fs was a disaster.
March 11, 200521 yr Thanks!I'll give these settings a go and see what happens.Any other users care to share their settings?http://members.lycos.co.uk/electronicplayg...0easydriver.jpg
March 12, 200521 yr Adey; I have a 9600XT 256MB,128bit and for me something that really helpeda lot was altering my AGP Aperature. I had played with 128MB 256MB thinking that it would help to have a larger memory segment available. Someone suggested the opposite, saying that if you had a fair amountof memory on the card you needed to reduce the Aperature to 64MB toprevent the card from swapping out to system RAM. I cannot recall whoposted this but I wish I could find out, as it worked like a charm, andI'd like to buy them a beer...or maybe more. If your BIOS will allow you to do this I'd suggest you try it. Since doing this I've been able to reduce my Ansio and AA and stillhave crisp visuals and the problem I had with large blocks of texture/scenery loading when I panned or switched views is now gone as well.As well as some minor stutters. Good luck and keep us posted. DN Denny Retired Professional Tourist
March 12, 200521 yr Hey DN,I've played around with my settings somemore. I tried the setting of 64mb Aperature size in the bios, but I never saw any improvement in the sim. What I did do was to lower the GLOBAL TEXTURE from MASSIVE to MEDIUM and now the stutters are completly gone!!! :-yellow1 I can't see much different in the texture quality or loading if at all in lowering this setting. What I've really learnt is that every pc has its different fix. Its taken me a good 7-9 months to get rid of the stutters and finally I've got there. All that left to do now is, find a few more FPS and I'll be a happy chappy.Anyone care to post there Omega control panel settings??Thanks folksAdey
March 12, 200521 yr Adey; Glad to hear you got things running well. That setting overridesother texture settings so even if you had them set lower it wouldn'thave helped. I'm in Denver, but should be home in a couple of days and I'll postmy settings. While I have a 9600xt vs 9800 I would think they would besimilar. DN Denny Retired Professional Tourist
