X52 problem

Hi, Brand new Saitek X52. When I switch the computer on, all lights on the throttle and stick are lit as normal, but the stick is dead till I unplug, then re-plug the USB. Saitek advised me to exchange it, which I did. The replacement is exactly the same. This makes me suspect the fault lies elsewhere. I'd be most grateful for any suggestions. Apart from this little hitch, I have to say this is one very nice piece of equipment.Russell.
