April 14, 200521 yr A quick question for the network experts out there....I have just set up my system with a new SysLink router. Do I still need to leave the XP firewall on or will the router take care of all that now?ThanksGlenn Glenn Ryzen 3700X, X570 Pro Wifi, 32GB 3600mhz RAM, Nvidia Titan Xp "Galactic Empire", RM750x PSU, H700 case, 2x NVMe M2 SSD, 1x SATA SSD
April 14, 200521 yr A router firewall and the WinXP firewall both only monitor inbound traffic. I'm running the freeware version of Zonealarm, in addition to a router. The nice thing about Zonealarm is that it also monitors outbound traffic, which is important these days.
April 14, 200521 yr You can turn off the XP SP2 Firewall since your router is doing the exact same thing. If you are concerned about outgoing traffic then consider ZoneAlarm or other third party software firewall. Just remember that any software firewall will be a program running on your system and *may* affect performance.Personally, I use the firewall in my router only. I also have anti-spyware and anti-virus software (which I shutoff when I use FlightSim). All of that combined with using FireFox Browser and Thunderbird Mail Client, and I don't have any virus, trojan, spyware, or other problems.YMMV.
