Help! - Antialiasing & text corruption - ATI 9600 Pro

Featured Replies

I have installed a Radeon 9600 Pro 128Mb card into my machine to replace the integrated graphics, and I've been able to up some sliders to improve eye candy. However I have anggle with Antialiasing (AA).When I have AA switched on I get corruption of the text in the ATC window and on the FPS readout at the top of screen (can't remember if ATIS text is affected or not). This occurs whether I have AA set on under the ATI control panel or under FS2002's display settings.I also get it with both the ATI Catalyst 5.4 drivers and the Omega 5.2 drivers.IIRC I also saw a similar problem years ago using AA on FS98, although it was the entire panel which was being corrupted by the AA routine.Any help would be much appreciated.

I have a 9600 Pro/128M by Saphire with no problems and am using the ATI 5.4 driver. Did you try the detailed uninstall of your previous driver before installing, or at least the one that comes with the driver in the ATI folder, rather than installing directly over the last driver. Also, did you check the bios setting on your MB to select the AGP card.Andy

Yep, did a full uninstall of the ATI 5.4 driver before installing the Omega 5.2 one, as per Omega's instructions. Also, I have disabled my onboard VGA card in the BIOS, so I've freed up the 32Mb RAM that uses. AGP aperture is set at 64Mb in the BIOS.

Here's a bump since I still have this problem. :)

Jock,I have the latest Radeon X800XT PCIe video card and get text corruption (including the panel) when lowering my screen resolution from the normal default (1680x1050) for my monitor. Also I heard the best resolution can be had by switching AA on in the video card display settings and turning it off w/i FS2002/FS9. You might try one or the other and see what works better for your system. I think AA works best in full screen and not in windowed mode too. You should also check out this excellent ATI tweak guide too if you haven't already: http://www.tweakguides.com/ATICAT_1.html. Hope this helps.Jim

Firehawk, thanks for the suggestions.I use 1024x768 in full-screen mode, occasionally switching to windowed mode for accessing other documents etc. The problem exists in both full-screen and windowed mode.I enabled FSAA and AF in the display drivers, and they are disabled in FS2002. I've also studied the tweak guides, but nothing seemed to make any difference.I will try changing the resolution (both higher and lower) to see if that cures it. However I think 1024x768 is the most appropriate resolution for my low spec CPU, and my 17" CRT monitor. Thanks again.

I think you're right concerning the 1024x768 resolution for your monitor. You might want to check the settings for your monitor too (most CRT's have buttons on the front of the monitor to make adjustments) and make sure they are at the default or not causing your problem. I had a 21" CRT once and adjusted the monitor settings so the computer screen was fully covered. That messed up my fonts too. Hope you can get it figured out.Jim

Well, I fixed it! :D I tried various screen resolutions & colour depths to no effect, so I had another look into the 3D settings in the Omega Driver control panel. The first thing I tried was to change the Alternate Pixel Centre from "default" to "enabled". This has cured the corruption of the text, and hasn't destroyed the FSAA or AF effect. So I'm a happy Jock in a Frock :(

It worked for me as well :D. I recently upgraded to an ATI 9600, and I was having the same problem! Alternate Pixel Centre ON!

MD83, I'm glad this tweak helped you. I was surprised to see this old thread resurrected, but it just roves what a good resource a forum like this can be. :-)
