64bit Windows XP and FS2004

Featured Replies

Before we all get overly excited about the new Microsoft 64bit Windows XP as well as the new CPU's from AMD and Intel there is something to take note of:http://simhq.com/_technology/technology_043c.htmlBasically we will not see any benefit in FS2004 with a 64bit OS and 64bit hardware until FS2004 (or FS2006) is completely rewritten in 64bit code. What's even more upsetting is that according to this article you will notice a significant performance hit if you try running FS2004 in Windows XP 64bit.

I get better performance in X64 despite it running in 32-bit WOW mode in X64 :)With better performance I don

I agree - it does seem smoother even though the frame rate counter is about the same. I am tempted to get an independent counter like FRAPS and see if there is difference...

Did anyone notice that the other program tested was written in Open GL? Did you notice how similar the results were then between the 32 and 64 bit tests? Maybe, just maybe that is why FS2004 seems to have such poor performance when compared to other programs.Terry
