May 26, 200521 yr On my older DELL P3, Windows 98 (plain vanilla, never updated or patched) always worked wonderfully well and rarely crashed. But about 4 months ago, it started to boot up horribly slowly and took about 3-4 mins to reach the desktop. I packed it up in early March as I have too many PCs in the house now (!) but I recently turned it on for the kids to let them use it for games. I forgot how horribly slowly it boots up. It runs great after booting up and shuts down in 3-5 seconds normally (not like Win XP in this regard!) but I am baffled, why does it take an eternity to boot up?Using EnditAll, I see that from time to time, it shows Win 32 core kernel as open or active. I'm not sure I ever saw this before. It used to be connected to the internet but no more. I used to update the AV (Norton Internet) but it hasn't been updated for 2-3 months now. It remains disconnected from the web. What could be causing this huge hiccup at start-up?Appreciate any suggestions, thanks.
