June 24, 200520 yr Hey All,I indicated in an earlier post that I was going to upgrade our old PIII 500 to something a bit more capable. Thus far I have orderedDFI LanParty Ultra-D MoBo (socket 939 - cheaply upgradeable to SLI with addition of a bridge from Newegg or elsewhere - also upgradeable to SATA2)1 gig OCZ 3200 DDR400 El Platinum Rev 2. (the good stuff Tccd or Tcc5)AMD 3000+ Venice boxedXP homeWill use from the existing computer 60 gig 7200 ide Maxtor harddrive, CD/RW/DVD drive. The final issue to be resolved of course is the video card. In looking at options in the price range I'm willing to pay it appears to come down to x700Pro (probably sapphire) or GeForce 6600 GT. Ordinarily I'm an ATI guy all the way but there is no - as yet - ATI SLI. I hate to spend $200 odd Canadian (approx $160 US) (I'm in Canada) to buy the x700pro just to find sli fully supported in FS10 (what a bummer that would be if it were to happen). So I'm considering trying nvidia - specifically this card:http://canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=Sh...413&cid=999.243Seems OK and the price is OK but is it any good for FS? Would getting this card be a mistake? Is there something better? Or will SLI never develop into anything of significance in the future?Any advice is welcome! The decision would be easy if I could get absolute certainty about future computer hardware/software developments. Is that so unreasonable? :)Thanks and Take Care! -Ed-
June 24, 200520 yr With respect to FS, SLI shmeSLI I reckon. The current version doesn't support it and I doubt that it will make much difference even if FS 10 does. Besides, a lot can happen in the video card arena over a year, so putting two 6600s in SLI in a year or two's time may be just as beneficial (and retro!) as hooking two Voodoo2s together in your rig :-lol Seriously though, if you are an AA junkie, steer away from the nVidia cards for this FS version because they get bogged down taking the jaggies out of already-smooth clouds ;) ATI cards don't suffer from this, but tend to shimmer much more in the building and tree arena. Pick which ever limitation annoys you less and get that card!Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
